Photo from Temptalia.com I will admit, I am not much of a trendy person — I tend to stick to the classics (think fitted tops and high heels). But, on location for Total Beauty at NYC Fashion Week 2008, I learned a few things. And I stopped by Sephora at 597 Fifth Avenue in NYC, where, in addition to great service, I learned what is flying off the shelves during Fashion Week from skin care expert Nadia: 1. Kinerase anything. According to Nadia, “Kinerase flies off our shelves – it’s our top seller.” And... read more

Do I Need a Special Antibacterial Soap for My Hands?

Antibacterial soaps contain high concentrations of low-molecular weight alcohols, like ethyl alcohol, that can be extremely drying to hands.  Recently, I read that some dermatologists suggest that patients use gentle and skin-beneficial facial cleansers for their hands instead, like Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser, shown above.  To verify if this is okay, enter the following excerpt from an interview with epidemiologist Elizabeth Bancroft, M.D., in the February 2008 Vogue. For more about ginger, read on. Ginger as an anti-inflammatory... read more

While here, we discussed a New York Times article that implied that beauty bloggers are driven for the free products, which I found rather condescending. Rather than applaud the rise of beauty-related media on the web, the New York Times article implied that the women who blog for advertisement or network funds and/or free swag are somehow more profit-driven than the women who write for salaried pay and/or free swag at print magazines and newspapers. ... read more

I am currently in New York City, and after having the best Reuben sandwich of my life, I stopped by Sephora in Times Square to get a look at all of their products. That’s when I found Cosmedicine Primary Care Moisturizer SPF 20 ($48, Sephora.com). Available exclusively at Sephora, the moisturizer makes an excellent choice for the daytime. A combination of antioxidant vitamins C and E Cosmedicine Primary Care Moisturizer SPF 20 contains a fairly high concentration of antioxidant vitamin E as tocopheryl acetate, which is a beneficial... read more
