Dear Scform,

Unfortunately, I have not come across any research documenting how octinoxate reacts with avobenzone and oxybenzone together. As such, I honestly do not know.

I think that it would be in your best interest to ask an already-practicing dermatologist about this one...Here is how to contact Dr. Neil Schultz, a dermatologist from Manhattan who has been practicing for the past 30 years:

Hope this helps you!
Sincerely,
Nicki

Hi Nicki,
I couldn't find your email address so I thought i'd just leave a comment. I know that the combination of octinoxate and avobenzone can create an unstable sunscreen but is it the octinoxate that destabilizes the avobenzone or the other way round?

The reason i'm asking is I wear a La Roche Posay sunscreen containing avobenzone and my foundation contains octinoxate as sun protection. If the avobenzone is destabilising the sun protection in my makeup then that's fine as I rely on sunscreen for protection - not foundation. But if my application of makeup with octinoxate is destabilising my sunscreen then I guess it's time to buy new makeup as I take sun protection very seriously.

I would love to hear your thoughts on this dilemma!
