Atopalm mle Face Cream Review

Occasionally there is a skin care cream with unique technology suitable for gentle, sensitive-skin, and Atopalm mle face cream ($19.99) fits the profile.  A Korean cult favorite, Atopalm mle face cream was designed specifically to hydrate dry, sensitive and sun-damaged skin.

What is the new technology?

The unique technology of Atopalm mle face cream is Multi Lamellar Emulsion (MLE) formulas.  Although the creator of Atopalm and TFivve, SkinScientifica, documents the Multi Lamellar Emulsion (MLE) increases barrier function over non-treated skin, this is the case for many moisturizers on the market.

What does impress me about Multi Lamellar Emulsion is it has been found to decrease epidermal hyperplasia, which is correlated with the level and duration of barrier disruption, as well as the epidermal mitotic index.  In SkinScientifica-produced studies of Multi Lamellar Emulsion versus Vaseline (with petrolatum jelly), it was found only Multi Lamellar Emulsion decreased the level of epidermal hyperplasia, not Vaseline.

Now wait, I know some of you are thinking, I thought increasing cell turnover was a good thing.  After all, cell turnover in the skin reduces by about 7% every 10 years, so increasing cell turnover mimics younger-looking skin.  (Hence the popularity of retinoids!)  However, in the case of skin diseases like rosacea and eczema, where cellular activity becomes uncontrolled flare-up, dermatologists often recommend agents that slow cellular turnover and increase barrier repair.   By this argument,  Multi Lamellar Emulsion is superior to Vaseline in treating rosacea and eczema.

Bottom Line

The other ingredients in Atopalm mle face cream are also impressive:  notably, olive oil and vitamin E are hydrating antioxidants suitable for many skin types, including most sensitive skin.  I find the line to be worth it, especially because I try so many skin care creams as a beauty blogger.  As always, check with your dermatologist for a personalized recommendation before using Atopalm mle face creamProduct Rating:  9/10  (High concentration of proven ingredients:  3/3.  New technology or unique formulation:  3/3.  Value for the money: 3/3.  Sunscreen: 0/1).
