Me (left) with my friend Lumei in NYC.

I’ve fallen in love…with New York, that is.  I went for a weekend, and I feel like I left part of myself there.  Every time I go, it becomes harder to leave.  The sheer number of places to go is absolutely thrilling for me.  But what really gets me is the general attitude of the people – travel from Manhattan to Chelsea, and the people speak different, dress different, and (I’m sure) prize different things.  Yet the beauty of it for me is that it seems there is a place for everyone there.  No need for conformity, guilt, or being contrived – just pack up your bags and go.  Amazing.

English: Chinatown, Manhattan, New York City 2...

New York. No place like it. This is Chinatown.

I’ve been in Pittsburgh for the past 27 years.  Born in South Korea, then moved to the U.S. after four months.  Aside from vacations, I’ve always been here, and sometimes I wonder if it’s time to pack up and get movin’ to the big city.

Not that I don’t love Pittsburgh.  It’s a great place to grow up, and to raise a family.  I know this.  But that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t love living somewhere different for a while, especially before I get married and have children…

That said, FutureDerm Inc. is moving into an office next Tuesday.  (For those of you who don’t know, I took a year off from school to build up the blog, launch a one-of-a-kind store online, and to develop my own products).  I’m really excited as well as nervous – I always thought I would have to become a dermatologist first, and then fulfill my dream of launching a beauty company later.  But, apparently, I don’t have to wait.  The time is now!

This all brings me to this week’s follow Friday:

Hey Nicki, could you do a review of the Cosmetic Skin Solutions serums that are supposed to be a dupe of the Skinceuticals? Let us know how they compare. Thanks.

I left NYC 12 yrs ago and never looked back. I suppose having lived there for 40 yrs (since I was born), it was getting to be a bit too much. But, for someone young and starting out, NYC is a wonderful and wondrous place. Enjoy and good luck with your future studies. ^^
