Today I am reviewing Falling in Love- by Philosophy, the third of 4 “LOVE” fragrances from the Philosophy line.

A delicious, sparkling berry scent, falling in love spray fragrance is a sensual fragrance created to embrace a woman’s romantic side.

When it comes to love you need not fall- but rather surrender- surrender to the idea that you must love yourself before you can love another- you must absolutely trust yourself before you can absolutely trust another most importantly, you must accept your flaws before you can accept the flaws of another. (Philosophy)

I was really pleased to read the definition that Philosophy chose to go along with this wonderful scent with such a romantic sounding name. It’s a most realistic and truthful definition- so polar to what Hollywood films put forth. I know each of us has watched a romantic film about falling in love and wished that would happen to us. Let me paint the scene: The muscled, perfectly tanned handsome man- poised on the platform of a plane- about to board- but rather than step onto the plane- the trip that will take him miles and miles from the sweet, beautiful woman of his dreams- he stops- draws in a deep breath, closing his eyes and in that moment he realizes he can’t live another moment thinking this woman won’t be by his side. He steps off the plane, racing to her- overcoming obstacle after obstacle- doing the seemingly impossible- he finds the woman- overcome by his hugely romantic gesture- she runs to him and they live happily ever after.
Who amongst us has not gotten teary eyed at this sort of scene or others like it; wishing something like that would happen to us. They are a wonderful form of entertainment and momentary escape- those romantic movies but the reality of falling in love and love itself is something far away from Hollywood and Philosophy’s definition is point on. Hollywood would have us believe that to be happy we must be coupled and by being coupled we will be complete and therefore happy. Remember the famous line from Jerry Maguire… “You complete me.” What woman didn’t melt at that line? The truth of love though- real love not Hollywood movie magic love is just as Philosophy says: as an individual you must love and trust yourself before you can love or trust another.

Back to the perfume- I think that if you could bottle the scent we emanate when we are falling in love this wonderful fragrance would be just that, and it’s a wonderful feeling- finding someone with whom you connect on multiple levels, who treats you with love and respect and with whom you wish to spend your life with. Who wouldn’t want to walk around being scented with this reminder? It’s uplifting and warm and happy with a sexiness factor to it as well. It’s been scientifically proven that our sense of self confidence level increases when we fall in love and we put forth energy or an aura of sexiness and this perfume captures that.

The Notes:
Vanilla, Jasmine, Lily of the Valley, Musk, Blackberry.
Style:
Fresh. Sexy. Clean

First whiff of the scent is clearly vanilla, strong and clear. The scent of vanilla has been shown to be associated with the positive – sweet treats and rewards, ice-cream holidays, innocent pleasures, etc. – which certainly helps to explain its popularity in fragrances, candles and air fresheners, etc. Vanilla is associated not only with warmth, softness and caring, but also has connotations of purity and simplicity.

The Mid note of lily of the valley- very floral is tempered by the fruitiness of the blackberry- my nose can detect both but most prevalent is the fruitiness and that is what stays with you until the dry down of this scent and then it’s pure unadulterated sexiness thanks to the musk of the finish. I sampled this early in the day and ran some errands in the hot humid weather and it wore very well I could detect it faintly approximately 5 hours later and when I inhaled it at my wrists a sexy, slightly fruity and earthy scent was what came through.

Falling in love is a warm, happy sexy fragrance appropriate for day or night- dress or casual events- it can come across strongly so do apply with a light hand and remember that heat increases the pungency of fragrances.

Have you ever wondered why so many perfumes and colognes include notes of musk? World Science Festival alum, Leslie Vosshall, is featured in today’s New York Times. She discusses the neuroscientific relationship between scent and arousal, and the perfume industry’s never-ending quest to bottle sex appeal. She stated “In general, fragrances considered sexy are based on musk, an odor taken from a sac beneath the abdominal skin of the male musk deer or, more often, created synthetically.” “Musk ends up being a really good proxy for sex because everyone agrees it has an animal undertone,” said Dr. Vosshall, who is also an investigator at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute in New York.

Uh, I am most happy that nearly all fragrances that include musk notes come from musk that is synthetically produced, how about you?
