Ralph Lauren Big Pony Men’s #3 Cologne Review

By Cheryl Johnson — July 28, 2012

The iconic Big Pony polo shirt, with its bold colors and oversized Polo Player logo, inspired a new team of fragrances. This collection continues the Ralph Lauren tradition of redefining American style while bringing choice and modernity to a new generation of men. Its flask bottles come in four bold colors, each representing a fragrance that evokes a man’s strengths, empowering him to “Get in the Game.”

Today a shift in my reviews… time for a review of a men’s fragrance, Big Pony Men’s #3. This crisp, outdoorsy fragrance is for the man who loves hiking, rock climbing, and anything else that appeals to his rugged sense of adventure. A thrilling scent, it brings together mint and ginger root to trigger an adrenaline rush of extreme sensations and the fresh appeal of the outdoors.

Notes:  Mint, Ginger.

Style:  Crisp. Outdoorsy. Adventurous.

A very simplistic scent; with only two notes, ginger and mint- but those are two powerful ingredients!

Mint

In ancient Rome, a student were encouraged to wear a wreath of mint around their necks, as mint was thought to “exhilarate the mind” and while I would not want to walk around wearing a mint wreath- sniffing mint is exhilarating to both your mind and your nose.

Mint leaves have many usages, including weight management, relief of indigestion and nausea.

Ginger:

In Western cuisine, ginger is traditionally used mainly in sweet foods such as ginger ale, gingerbread, ginger snaps, etc. Ginger produces a hot, fragrant kitchen spice and it is much the same as a note in fragrance- hot and fragrant! Pungent in fact to my nose.

Research conducted in vitro tests show that ginger extract can control the quantity of free radicals and theperoxidation of lipids. Thus it could possibly prevent or decrease the damage in the human body caused by free radicals.

Overall Opinions

The combination of the mint and ginger make a huge fragrance one two punch in this aromatic cologne. For my nose it was very hard to discern top not from the finish because the two notes to this scent are both so strong. Both are pleasant to the nose, clean and simple- you know what you are smelling; no second spray or inhale necessary. Speaking of which, this cologne is very intense, use a very light hand when applying this eau de toilette, as to not overwhelm. Even in the lower concentration of essential oils that you get with the eau de toilette formulary it is an intense, long wearing fragrance for certain- lasted approximately 7 hours and was still detectable the next day after a shower.<

This is a very clean scent, very powerful and in my opinion perfect for an adventurous outdoorsy kind of guy but definitely one that likes to be noticed, because even with a light hand this scent makes its presence known!

It’s a scent that can bridge different generations and best suited to warm weather and casual wear.

DID YOU KNOW…

Known in Greek Mythology as the herb of hospitality- one of the first known uses for mint in Europe was as a room deodorizer. The herb was strewn across floors to cover the smell of the hard-packed soil. Stepping on the mint helped to spread its scent through the room. Today, it is more commonly used for aromatherapy through the use of essential oils.
