Product Review: Rimmel Lasting Finish by Kate Lipstick

Rimmel Lasting Finish by Kate Lipstick ($4.92, drugstore.com) promises to be bold, much like it’s creator and company’s spokeswoman, model Kate Moss. When Rimmel sent us a sample, I was delighted to try the red. I’m a big believer in wearing red lipstick for confidence and so I hoped this color and lipstick would work well.

Color: 5/5, Pigmentation: 5/5

color-swatches-rimmel-lasting-finishThis red is spectacular. Rimmel Lasting Finish by Kate Lipstick’s number 10 has a subtle berry tone that keeps it from being too harsh, while still allowing it to pop with a great red tone. The pigment is great. I put on two coats (blotting in between) and got a great coverage. It’s a highly pigmented lipstick, which makes it great for a bold look.

I’m a bit disappointed by what I would consider a limited color palate. There are only seven colors in the line-up. However, because this is a special line designed by Kate Moss and not the brand’s entire line, I think it’s fair to say that she has designed some pretty classically chic color selections with a few wild ones thrown in.

Durability: 3/5

durability-rimmel-kateThis lipstick comes off pretty easily, so I don’t think it would stand up as well as one might hope to something like dinner or — gasp! — kissing. Though I do think it would hold up relatively well through a drink. It’s not that the lipstick itself doesn’t stay on, it just comes off on other surfaces pretty easily, meaning it takes a bit of reapplication to keep a perfect lip.

Texture: 4/5, Finish: 5/5

rimmel-lasting-finish-onI actually like the texture on Rimmel Lasting Finish by Kate Lipstick quite a bit. It doesn’t dry out too much, although it’s not as moisturizing as other lipsticks I’ve tried. Still, it’s not drying for me and I doubt it would be for most people. If you’re worried, you can layer a little lip balm underneath.

The texture, in my opinion, was great for a matte lipstick. I could layer it without it feeling painted or cakey. And there’s a subtle sheen that really works quite well.

SPF: 0/1

I definitely wish this had SPF, unfortunately, as far as I could find, it todesn’t.

Bottom Line

kate-rimmel-lipstickI think that Rimmel Lasting Finish by Kate Lipstick is a great drugstore find. I love the red color because it pops without being too harsh. It’s not drying or too thick but it has fantastic pigmentation and stays on pretty well. Overall, I’d say that if you’re looking to experiment with a color, though there’s a limited selection, this is a good brand to try it with.

Product Rating: 7.5/10

I'm a sucker for mixing things together, whether it's patterns in my clothes or my lip products. And I find two-for one deals almost irresistible. So, really, CoverGirl Blast Lipstick Blendable Lip Duo ($7.99, amazon.com) is right up my alley — two lipsticks in one container, mix-up options on the go. I liked them quite…

Not only did Kate Beckinsale rock the red carpet at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party, she actually looked like a party all her own. And a really stellar party, at that. She donned a black, strapless Monique Lhuillier gown beaded in metallics in an almost firework-like design and looked stunning. Makeup artist Molly Stern went…
