Fragrance Review: BCBGMAXAZARIA

BCBGMAXAZARIA-fragrance

What a beautiful bottle this sexy wearable perfume, BCBGMAXAZARIA ($51.76, amazon.com) comes in. The BCBG iconic butterfly is transformed into a blooming flower. The bottle is a reflection of what’s inside, an ultra feminine and romantic scent.

From BCBGMAXAZARIA: Discover the captivating allure of the new BCBGMAXAZRIA fragrance. A breathtaking balance of timeless elegance and individual chic, our signature scent reflects the BCBGMAXAZRIA woman’s innate sense of style. Confident notes of wild strawberry and black cherry sparkle with a hint of kir royal, inviting delicate shades of jasmine, lily, violet and rose. A flourish of luxurious orris, among the most precious in nature, blends with distinctive base notes of musk and sandalwood. Sensuous and innovative, the BCBGMAXAZRIA fragrance becomes the first thing she’ll want to put on and the last she’ll take off.

Personal Experience

I am intrigued from the start: the crystal bottle with it’s artistic architecture, the blooming flower top, the pink hue — it’s calling to me.

Top notes: wild strawberry, black cherry, kir royale

Mid notes: jasmine, lily of the valley, rose, violet

Bottom notes: musk, orris, creamy sandalwood

Top Notes

BCBGMAXAZARIA-black-cherry

The potent cherry note in the beginning of this is almost reminiscent of Chapstick.

Now, I realize that doesn’t particularly make you want to run out and buy the scent, while I did initial feel nostalgia, the other notes definitely work and bring a more adult complexity to the scent.First whiff of BCBGMAXAZARIA puts me into a time warp — the wild strawberry mixed with cherry essence honestly reminded me very much of the cherry Chapstick of my childhood. All I can think of at first are the days when Chapstick was the lip balm brand and you had your choice of original or cherry.

Next to my nose are the notes from the inclusion of the Kir Royale. Kir Royale is a a champagne-based aperitif with a measure of blackcurrant cream liqueur (crème de cassis). I totally forgot about this cocktail, it’s super delicious, sophisticated, and completely makes sense in this wonderful scent. It brings a bubbly effervescence with fruity accents.

Mid-Notes

BCBGMAXAZARIA-lily-of-the-valley

Lily of the Valley has a very sweet scent that’s well-balanced by the fruity top notes.

Coming through in the mid-range of BCBGMAXAZARIA are the multi-layered floral notes of this fragrance. It would be overpowering in my opinion, were there not the fruit notes in the top range to balance out the strong floral notes of Jasmine: sweet and highly aromatic, lily of the valley: more sweetness, rose, and violet: a floral that is also sweet.

Bottom Notes

BCBGMAXAZARIA-sandalwood

The sandalwood bottom notes anchor the rest of the sweet scent.

But the bottom notes of BCBGMAXAZARIA have an earthiness and strong green leaf undertones to them.

In the finish are the notes that bring the earthy, skin scents to the focus and help to anchor this scent. It has Musk, Orris: the woody and heavy roots of the iris plant, Sandalwood: creamy, earthy, and smooth. The trio finish the scent off and leave the fruity, floral scent grounded to help ensure it’s neither too floral nor too sweet.

Bottom Line

I really enjoyed the sample of BCBGMAXAZARIA that I picked up at my department store and intend to purchase it. In my opinion it’s a just right floral that can be worn as an everyday scent — from day to night. It starts off strongly in the Eau De Parfum formulary but dries down quickly, leaving an intoxication combo of sparkling fruits and florals on your skin. The approximate wear time is three to four hours. So there you have it, I’ll be purchasing this scent and drinking Kir Royale’s…

Did You Know?:

Europe did not use perfume much until the sixteenth century when Catherin de Medici came from Italy to marry the future king. She wore gloves of perfumed leather and suddenly everybody wanted this. The best place to get these gloves was from Grasse (France) which soon became the perfume capital of the world

So… a hearty thank you to Catherine de Medici- you were clearly a diva way ahead of her time!
