I change, or rather, rotate, my skin care products every few days. Since I am using Retin A, it makes me flake sometimes, so when I need to take a break, I will swap out products for a few nights until the dryness has subsided. Otherwise, I will switch once I run out of sometime but don’t feel like it’s been performing as well.

I will give a product about 30 – 50 days to see if it’s “doing what it is suppose to do”. You can’t expect an overnight change (but wouldn’t it be nice?). Love your blog. So much information, and fun to read.

For me, there isn’t a set time. I will change around products based on my skin’s needs and the weather. I have several moisturizers and sunscreens that I rotate if my skin is drier or needs more hydration. Some of my serums that are super-lightweight, I use in warmer months. And sometimes, I’ll just keep using the same products for several months, but will just add a few drops of rose hip seed oil to my regime if I need added moisture.

I change small parts of my routine (different cleansers) daily, but the important parts (vit c, retinol) only when they run out and then only if I didn’t LOVE it. Also, I do asian skincare so I have about 7-9 steps in my skincare routine.

I change my routine based on the weather because my skin is very sensitive to changes!

I rotate my products often every few weeks just because I get bored easily! But I don’t toss them out until I use them up to get my money worth.

Whenever I finish my current product I like to look around and see what else is available. I, like most women, am constantly on the look out for the next miracle product.

I give usually 2-3 months for a product to start showing some results unless it breaks me out or causes an allergic reaction. I usually alternate wonderful products (like vit C serum and retinol serum) in cycles of 2 months !

I only change skincare items when I need something different….if I need an acne treatment, a heavier moisturizer, a mask for something specific. I have reactive skin that can get very out of control very fast if I try too many things!

I always change routines when the seasons indicate it’s time- but most of the time I’m playing around with different combinations. Often when I think I’ve got it right, my skin will get all sensitized and I’ll have to adjust :P

I am 51 and have been searching for the fountain of youth for the last 30 years; alas, I fear I will rotate and change for all of my days ;-)

I only switch products when I feel like my skin needs something different but rarely switch brands.

My routine usually goes as follows:
    Gentle cleanser with clarisonic
    Toner with 2% salicylic acid
SkinCeuticals C E Feluric and PTR sunscreen at day
    Tretinoin 0.05 at night

When I get too dried because of the tretinoin, I use Replenix Power of Three and cut off the salicilyc acid. Also, in winter, I carry with me Eucerin aquaphor which is great for flaky skin.

At the end, I think skin changes with weather, hormones and the products you’re using. I think you should change your routine at the first sign of irritation. Unless I’m starting a new product, inflammation, redness and flakiness are a clear sign something must be changed.
