I started wearing eyeliner and lip liner when I was 12, but I was only allow to wear it on the weekends.

I started sneaking my mom’s blush (Rubiglo in the little terracotta pot–remember that?!) when I was in 5th grade because I was so pale and self conscious about it. I used to put it on with an old paintbrush! Thankfully my mom took pity on me about a year later and bought me my own makeup…and better brushes!

Do you want the official time that my mom knows about or the unofficial time when I used to sneak out the house clean faced but with a backpack loaded with makeup and makeup remover? My mom would say I started wearing makeup at 18. The real answer is 13 when I started sneaking some of hers. When I was 16 and my best friend got a driver’s license, that was when I started seriously wearing makeup.

I remember when I was 13 I attended a wedding and asked my Mom if I could wear makeup. The reply was, “Well, just a little bit.” I didn’t know what “a little bit” was, so I borrowed her makeup bag and pretty much put everything in there on my face! *LOL* Ah, I’ve toned it down since then, but that was my starting ‘makeup moment’!

I started wearing makeup at 14 to cover blemishes. I couldn’t believe it, it was like an eraser that covered everything and evened out my skintone. Little did I know that I had created a monster, I am still very very into makeup. Thank goodness that I don’t cake it on like I used to though. But I still love my foundation!

7th grade. Full on foundation, concealer, blush…basically a new face. I was blessed w/ great skin, but I hated how pale I was. I’ve learned to embrace my skin color now in my 30′s and take extremely good care of my skin. Only wear products to accentuate features (i.e. blush, lipstick/gloss, eyeshadow) when I feel like it, or for a special occasion. Sunscreen is my new foundation : )

The summer between 7th and 8th grade- Cover Girl Professional mascara and various “pot o’glosses.” And of course the collection of Bonnie Bell lip smackers. By Christmas in 8th grade, I was wearing Charlie perfume and pressed powder. By 9th grade, department store all the way.

I started around 13. I used to watch soap operas ( this was the early 90′s) and there was an actress who had this three tone eyeshadow look going on, in green no less. I desperately wanted to copy it. I failed horribly.
