Happy Friday! I’m back with my 3rd Round of the BB and CC Creams War! You can see Round 1 here and 2 here. I’m bringing you the best of BB Creams, CC Creams and tinted moisturizers. I have three products for Round 3 - Ren Satin Perfection BB Cream, tarte BB Tinted Treatment 12-Hour Primer Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Sunscreen, and TONYMOLY Luminous Pure Aura CC Cream (SPF30/PA++) 50ml.
As a reminder, BB creams should (in general) act as a moisturizer, have high SPF, work as foundation, work as concealer, have anti-aging properties, brightening properties, nourishing properties, and some claim to also prime the skin. CC Creams are supposed to have high SPF, better coverage, alleviate uneven skintones, and have a lighter and better texture so your real skin shines through. Tinted moisturizers usually have SPF and a tint to even out your skin tone, moisturize the skin, and some even have anti-aging benefits.

1 Color adjusting shade.
All three of the shades swatched on my hand under daylight bulbs taken with flash.
The Ren Satin Perfection BB Cream is a tad darker than I like. It’s also sheer. However, I love the satin finish. I didn’t feel oily on my t-zone from it at all, and it is even better when worn with something like NARS Light Reflecting Loose Setting Powder on top. I do feel like it has very low SPF. However, those of you with silicone allergies will rejoice at this formula.
The Tonymoly Luminous Pure Aura CC Cream is all kinds of awesome. First, it has a dewy finish that doesn’t go all oil slick on me. Second, the self-adjusting color (which I’ve seen work horribly in other products) actually seems to work well in this. It adjusted to my skintone. I would love to understand the science behind that! Third, it provides the perfect amount of coverage while still letting my own skin show. I don’t have to set this with powder to wear it. It’s moisturizing on my skin without going oily. It does have sweet flowery scent that fades, but it’s really odd at first.
I’m torn on the tarte BB Cream. I loved the sample I received so much that I bought a full size. The color match is great. The coverage is perfect. However, if your skin isn’t well moisturized it will ball up on your face in a strange way or look cakey. It does work well under any sort of foundation you want to use. I find if I wear it on its own it doesn’t look quite right, but if you add a setting powder on top or a foundation, it looks fine.
For me, I choose Tonymoly Luminous Pure Aura CC Cream as the definitive winner of Round 3. Both Ren and tarte are nice, but they both have their flaws. Additionally, I can’t believe how inexpensive the Tonymoly is in comparison to the other two products.

- 42I'll admit, I'm slow to change: When BB creams first came out, I didn't like the fact that they only came in 3-5 shades each. Then, I started to realize that they usually had only silicone bases, meaning that the key ingredients were laying on top of the skin, not embedded in delivery systems absorbed…
