BB and CC Creams War - Round 6

War of the BB & CC Creams Round 6Products purchased by me. All opinions are my own.

Happy Friday! This is the final round of the BB & CC Creams War before I start pitting the winners against each other. The three products I'm warring with today are It Cosmetics Anti-Aging Full Coverage Physical SPF50 CC Cream, Too Faced Air-Buffed BB Crème Complete Coverage Makeup SPF 20, and e.l.f. Studio Tinted Moisturizer SPF 20. Just to remind you, BB creams should act as a moisturizer, have high SPF,  have concealing abilities, act as foundation, have anti-aging properties, brightening properties, nourishing properties, and some claim to also prime the skin. In other words, BB Creams are supposed to be full coverage products. CC Creams should have high SPF, better coverage without looking like you've caked on makeup, alleviate uneven skintones, and have a lighter and better texture so your real skin shines through. Tinted moisturizers usually have SPF, a tint to even out your skintone, moisturize the skin, and some have anti-aging benefits.

Claims This is the first complete coverage Beauty Balm that evens skin tone and banishes imperfections with an air-buffed second skin finish. The result? Flawless looking skin with 5-in-1 benefits. Includes a snap-in-place Air-Buff Brush specifically created with our cruelty-free Teddy Bear Hair to blend this lightweight formulation into flawless looking skin. This is vegan friendly and paraben free.

Air Buffed BB Crème is where skincare and makeup meet. The cream-to-powder formula provides long-lasting, complete (and buildable) coverage with 5-in-1 benefits:
  • Perfects
  • Mattifies
  • Primes
  • Moisturizes
  • Protects with SPF 20
Tips for Application To apply this foundation, dab the brush in tiny circles across the bb creme. Then apply to the face, starting at the center and moving outward in a circular motion. It is very much like applying a loose mineral foundation, in my opinion. You can pat it on if you need to conceal a spot. Pat for coverage, buff to blend, repeat to build up to the desired coverage.

Too Faced BB Cream, It Cosmetics CC Cream, e.l.f. Tinted Moisturizer Swatches, Review
Here's what all three look like swatched on my skin and on half of my face.
Too Faced BB Cream vs. It Cosmetics CC Cream vs. e.l.f. Tinted Moisturizer
The e.l.f. Tinted Moisturizer in Porcelain is too dark and orange for my skintone. I actually feel like my face looks worse with it than without it. While it does have a decent shade range, especially for a drugstore product that's very inexpensive, I'm sad to report that the lightest shade is still not light enough for me. Because of my rosacea, I would not wear this on its own because it's only SPF 20. I would have to wear my moisturizer with SPF under this. While this doesn't work at all for me, it might work for someone that is a match in one of the foundation colors. It didn't irritate my sensitive skin at all. I got about 2.5 hours of wear with it by itself on my sensitive, combo skin (oily t-zone and oily eyes). I think it might work better as a primer for most people.
The Too Faced Air-Buffed BB Crème Complete Coverage Makeup in Snow Glow is a pretty good match for my skintone. I really like this product because you can apply it a few different ways. First, forget the brush that comes with it. That brush is a nice brush, but it's really only good for around the eyes. Use a brush like the Sigma F88, the Urban Decay Optical Blurring brush, or a beauty sponge. Above, I used a beauty blender to dab the BB Creme on my face. You can apply it sheerly, like I did, or you can apply it thicker from the get go by using the brush. Again, it's only SPF 20, so I would still need to use my moisturizer with SPF underneath it for adequate protection. It does not irritate my skin. I picked this product up back in January at IMATS LA and when my skin started freaking out in February it was the only thing I could wear that would cover my rosacea flare ups, since I can apply it all over, then pat it on to conceal the flare. I really love its unique cream nature, as it didn't get cakey on me or separate the way some foundations do. While Too Faced has the light shades covered, they don't have a lot of darker shades available.  I like that it has a physical sunblock with the Titanium Dioxide. This does live up to its 5 main claims to me. I can get 8 hours of wear out of it but it does require touch ups. My only two complaints with this product are the SPF not being 30 or greater, and the amount of product for the price, as you're not getting quite an ounce. I'd rather see more product and no brush.
The It Cosmetics Anti-Aging Full Coverage Physical SPF50 CC Cream in Fair blew me away. I found Fair to be a fantastic match for my skintone. I love that it has both Titanium Dioxide and Zinc Oxide as physican sunblocks in it. I love that it has a ton of anti-aging ingredients in it. And the SPF 50 is amazing. This really does a great job at completely masking my rosacea and redness, evening out my skintone, and improving the appearance of my skin. It feels great to wear! It doesn't irritate my sensitive skin in the slightest. It has a slight citrus scent that fades quickly, but it definitely perks me up in the morning. I've gotten 6 to 8 hours of wear, depending on what I'm doing and if I set this with NARS Light Reflecting Loose Setting Powder.
The e.l.f. Tinted Moisturizer didn't work for me at all. The Too Faced Air-Buffed BB Creme is really nice, but the It Cosmetics Anti-Aging CC Cream came out on top for me. It's my winner today!

I like the IT Naked cream best, it blends well with your skin better than the other two products. The only thing that concerns me is the ingredients. These days I am really leaning towards products that mostly contain natural ingredients. I realise that this is not possible in all cases, but I'm surprised at how much is out there :)

@Tara I was shocked by the super long ingredients listing for the CC Cream. That's one reason I always like to look at ingredients for products. However, I really love the physical sunblock in that one. @Susan I'm so happy that this has been helpful!

Wowee, the IT Cosmetics one has a great ingredient list and looks fabulous on my skin. I wish IT Cosmetics was available for me to swatch in person as I'm not confident in picking the right shade for myself.

Phyrra, the IT cosmetics CC cream looks fantastic on you, and I bet it would look pretty good on me as well. I have the same light, light skin tone and the same rosacea issues. Also, I live in Florida and wouldn't even consider going outside when the sun is up with anything less than a 30SPF broad spectrum product. That said, the price of the IT cream is within my range, as well. I will be on the lookout for this IT CC cream, and I also want to thank you for this series! It's not only weeded out the 'good, bad and worse' for me, but cleared up many questions I had about BB and CC creams. Thank you again for putting so much effort into the entire series and putting your face through so much to do so!

Thanks, Phyrra! Mind if I ask...what "Snail Secretion Filtrate" is? It's in the It Cosmetics CC cream.

@BooBooNinja I'll have a post over at my blog with swatches of all the shades soon! @Sophie thank you! I'm in Florida, too, so I know what you mean. You're very welcome :)

@Cam The following is from a PDF document on POLY-HELIXAN (snail secretion filtrate). POLY-HELIXAN is a powerful active ingredient, natural and ecological, extracted from a defensive liquid secreted by a mollusc (snails). It is a complete and balanced solution for skin care products, created by a living creature to protect, restore, renew and hydrate its own skin. The snail mucus extraction process is carried out after submitting the gastropods to extreme stress conditions for a period of time. Here is a link to the PDF: http://www.in-cosmetics.com/__novadocuments/7594 @Phyrra Considering your cruelty free stance does putting snails under extreme stress count as cruelty or cruelty free?

@Theresa I'm typically not adverse to things like honey, beeswax or lanolin. It Cosmetics assured me that they were cruelty-free (but never stated that they were vegan). If the process is humane (which I am not sure if it is), it would not bother me. If the snails die from it then it would not be cruelty-free by my standards.
