Best for Mild Symptoms (Skin Sallowness, Mild Dryness, Slight Age Spots): FutureDerm Niacinamide-Rich Moisturizer 09, 10, 25, 26

09-10-23-24

There are certain things that seem like they can do it all: Working mothers, Oprah Winfrey. Oh, and then there’s niacinamide, or vitamin B3. This superb ingredient that has been shown to alleviate everything from age spots to skin sallowness to mild discoloration (Cutis, 2005) when used in concentrations ranging from 2-4%. Our FutureDerm Niacinamide-Rich Moisturizer 09 contains 4% niacinamide.

Best of all, it’s safe for all skin tones. Unlike other skin lighteners like hydroquinone, niacinamide doesn’t stop hyperpigmentation by inhibiting enzymes, so you’re also not at risk of side effects like ochronosis, even if you have one of the darkest skin tones.

Best for Vitamin C Fanatics: FutureDerm Vitamin C-Rich Moisturizer 11, 12, 27, 28

7777-07

Vitamin C is one of my favorite all-time ingredients. It brightens, it lightens, it tightens the skin. (Oh my, that even rhymes!) But, all witty puns aside, vitamin C makes a brilliant difference in your skin after just a few days of regular use. (Give it a few weeks, and you look even better! I promise.)

FutureDerm Vitamin C-Rich Moisturizer doesn’t mess around. It contains about 10% stabilized vitamin C as ascorbyl glucoside (5%) and tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate (5%). When used in conjunction with our FutureDerm Vitamin CE Caffeic Silk Serum 16+2, you are getting the most potent 1-2-3 wallop of three forms of proven vitamin C in the market today (that we know of, anyway).

Look no further than this gentle lightening and brightening moisturizer with just 2% white tea and 2% SymWhite Plus. Best for Gentle Anti-Aging Action: FutureDerm Power Essentials Moisturizer 15, 16, 31, 32

15-16-31-32-02

Sometimes you just need to get down to basics. Sometimes skin just needs the best in anti-wrinkle, firming, and antioxidant ingredients. That’s where our FutureDerm Power Essentials Moisturizer 31 for Dry Skin comes in; it’s just like our FutureDerm Anti-Aging Super Moisturizer 1, but without the brightening ingredients. It includes:

  • Niacinamide
  • White tea
  • Grape seed extract
  • Matrixyl (firming peptide)
  • Argireline (Botox-like peptide in some individuals)

Best of all, it’s safe for all skin tones. Unlike other skin lighteners like hydroquinone, niacinamide doesn’t stop hyperpigmentation by inhibiting enzymes, so you’re also not at risk of side effects like ochronosis, even if you have one of the darkest skin tones.

Some of the moisturizers contain both vitamin C and niacinamide. I remember an old futurederm post that talked about how vitamin c and niacinamide should not be used together. Is there something special that allows the use of these two together in a few of the formulations?

Hi @V! We are still going to offer the Customizable Moisturizer.

As you may have noticed from your new login process, we decided to bite the bullet and get a new website done on a platform that will enable us to make all of the changes we need as a growing company. Unfortunately, that also meant our old Customizable Moisturizer quiz platform is no longer functional, so we are in the process of creating a new one.

We should have it back up and launched sometime this summer. Thank you for asking about it! Knowing what you like keeps us producing just that.

    All the best,
    Nicki

    Hi @Mala –

    Hi Mala,

Wow, you have a great memory! For anyone else reading this post, it is available here:
    http://www.futurederm.com/2012/10/25/should-niacinamide-and-l-ascorbic-acid-be-used-together/

To reiterate, the interaction between niacinamide and vitamin C occurs with acidic forms of vitamin C to form hydrogen peroxide. Remember that you use antioxidants to prevent peroxidation/oxidation within the skin, so it’s not a good idea to be forming hydrogen peroxide all over the place. (Also why I don’t recommend “oxygenated” skin care creams, except benzoyl peroxide as an on-the-spot treatment only).

That said, vitamin C as L-ascorbic acid can be too acidic for use with niacinamide, yes. But vitamin C as ascorbyl palmitate and tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate are fine, because these compounds have a neutral pH and should not allow the aforementioned reaction to occur.

I’ve also been asked this question about our L-ascorbic acid Vitamin CE Caffeic Serum 16+2, and my response to that is that the L-ascorbic acid there is microencapsulated, so there is a slow release over the course of 8 hours. Theoretically there could be oxidation between the L-ascorbic acid and niacinamide together in the first few minutes or so, but the amount would be far less significant than if the compound was not microencapsulated.

Does that make sense? Let me know if you still have questions!

    All the best,
    Nicki

Thanks Mala for asking the same question I was about to ask. I am using CECaffeic Serum and I found Niacinamide in most of these moisturizers. One more suggestion, may be FutureDerm should also have a moisturizer with Resveratrol to alternate with Niacinamide , may be ?
I am in late 30s a dry-ish skin with some fine lines and my skin started to sag a little bit . I think for me FutureDerm Anti-Aging Super Moisturizer 17 — Best for Dry Skin will be a good choice ? I don’t have age spots , discoloration or anything as such. I use FuturDerm vitamin C serum in the morning and retinol at night.

Wow, this is pretty overwhelming. I actually think it would’ve been much easier to purchase one if there weren’t so very many to have to choose from.

I don’t see any formulations for combination skin, so where are we supposed to go with these moisturizers? I have an extremely oily nose, but a dry forehead, and cheeks that alternate btwn both dry and oily. I’m 46 yrs old. What would I buy for combo skin then?

  6. Ozana says:

This seems great but now everyone sells their products in airless containers. Why sell them in open containers like this?? Is this because they are cheaper to buy?? But how about quality of the products and your reputation?? I would buy some of the items as the ingredients seems great but never in a container like this that promotes bacteria and reduces the shelf life and the potency of the ingredients.

  7. Mandy says:

I would gladly buy one or even two but they need to be in a pump container not in a jar like this! What is the point of putting all these wonderful ingredients in unhygienic packaging not to mention degradation of the product?

  8. Nicki Zevola says:

    Hi @Ann,

I’m glad you asked what you would personally use! We have a questionnaire coming out in the next month or so that will tell you which to choose, but in the meantime, I’m happy to get the party started and answer these types of questions individually.

If your skin is dry AND oily, definitely choose the “Normal to Oily.” Our dry formulation contains a plethora of hydrators that will be too much for anyone with combination skin.

You didn’t mention specific concerns, but our FutureDerm Anti-Aging Super Moisturizer 01 covers everything from age spots to fine lines/wrinkles to antioxidant protection:

    Hope this helps,

  9. Nicki Zevola says:

    Hi @Mimi,

FutureDerm Niacinamide-Rich Moisturizers have grape seed extract, a natural source of resveratrol. (I got you covered!)

When in doubt, the Anti-Aging Super Moisturizers 01, 02, 17, 18 are the best, because they cover all of your bases, with maximal concentrations of ingredients proven to make a difference in the skin. If your skin is dry, Anti-Aging Moisturizer 17 is wonderful!

However, if you want only what you need (as some consumers do), you could go with the FutureDerm Peptide-Rich Moisturizer 05, 06, 22, or 23 (22 and 23 are for dry skin).

    Hope this helps,
    Nicki

  10. Nicki Zevola says:

    Hi @Ozana and @Mandy,

You brought up one of my favorite things about the moisturizer: THE JAR HAS AN AIRTIGHT PUMP INSIDE! You lift the lid, and you pump out just the right amount of product. It’s not a “jar” in the traditional sense.

I need to take photos and put this up as a blog post right away! We would NEVER put anything in a package that was not airtight if the active ingredients are not microencapsulated.

    All the best,
    Nicki

Thank you for giving us more options! I just have a question regarding one of the peptides in the mix. Which version of Matrixyl is used in these formulations? Is it the regular Matrixyl, Matrixyl 3000 or Matrixyl synthe’6?
