One of the reasons I decided to start selling other products in the FutureDerm shop in addition to my own was because of amazing products like B. Kamins AHA+BHA Gommage ($34.00, FutureDerm.com/Shop). One of my all-time favorites, this gentle scrub has tiny rice beads and not one, not two, but three of my favorite ingredients: glycolic acid + lactic acid + salicylic acid. Depending on how often you exfoliate, you can see dramatic results in as little as one use, especially if it’s been a while since you last exfoliated. For more, read on!
Glycolic acid has a small molecular structure, so it goes deeper into the skin than other AHAs.
Glycolic acid is shown in independent peer-reviewed studies to increase collagen by stimulating fibroblasts, thus making it a great anti-aging ingredients (International Journal of Cosmetic Science). It’s also been shown to increase skin firmness over time with regular use.
However, like nearly all great exfoliating agents, it does temporarily thin the skin at first. So it’s important to always remember sunscreen!
Lactic acid, on the other hand, has two primary differences from glycolic acid.
First, lactic acid has a larger molecular structure than glycolic acid, so it smoothes out the surface layer of the skin (Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology).
Second, lactic acid increases skin’s hydration more than glycolic acid. Interestingly enough, both lactic acid and glycolic acid are hydrating by nature. However, many people think they are irritating because higher concentrations of AHAs than in B. Kamins AHA+BHA Gommage can be irritating, and the resultant dryness and redness leads people to think AHAs are drying. Small doses, or gradually increased doses over time, are hydrating (Cosmetic Dermatology).
Salicylic acid works by softening keratin, a protein that forms part of the skin structure. This helps to loosen dry scaly skin, increasing cell turnover and effectively renewing the skin. It is often used in acne treatments to cleanse and to prevent clogging of the pores. When salicylic acid is used in combination with other treatments, it is often to allow the other formulation’s ingredients to penetrate the skin more effectively.
Who is this product designed for?
All skins, except hyper-sensitive and pustular acne.
Personal Use and Opinions
I was super excited to try B. Kamins AHA+BHA Gommage – anything that promises to do a physical and chemical exfoliation in one-step has me sold! I was pleased to find the cream has a whipped, non-greasy, light texture. I applied a thick layer, and I left it on for the indicated two minutes. After I massaged it with a gentle, circular motion and rinsed with lukewarm water, I was surprised to find my skin felt baby soft and smooth. It definitely works!
Make sure skin is dry after cleansing. Apply AHA+BHA Gommage in a thick coat all over the face and neck. Avoid area close to eyes. After approximately two minutes, begin gommage techniques, focusing on areas that are thick, dull and asphyxiated. Once gommage is completed, rinse with lukewarm water. Can be used once or twice a week.
Do not leave on longer than two minutes — the non-AHA components in B. Kamins AHA+BHA Gommage can react with light and air, leaving the AHA more concentrated on the skin than intended, leading to possible irritation. Leave on for two minutes, then rub in a circular motion, then rinse.
B. Kamins AHA+BHA Gommage is definitely a keeper — the gentle exfoliating motion, combined with three of my favorite AHAs, worked really well. It’s all backed by science, and quite frankly, I couldn’t be happier with it!

- 38Dry skin can be a nightmare - irritation, inflammation, and itchiness. It tends to occur more during the fall and winter due to low humidity and excessive bathing. In fact, xerosis is often called "winter itch" because it is at its worst during those months. Even worse, those with dry skin are less likely to…
