Product Review: Your Best Face Skin Care Correct Eye Cream

Your Best Face Skin Care Correct Eye Cream

I love creating products. It’s seriously one of my favorite things. But at the same time, there are still some products brands send me that are patent-pending and I wish to God I would’ve created first!

Your Best Face Skin Care Correct Eye Cream is one of these products. Don’t take it just from me — according to the company:

“Correct Eye Cream has always been the ultimate end-all-be-all eye cream. As one of our brand’s first products, we formulated it to help fight signs of aging and fatigue around the eye area, making it our best selling and most loved product.

Over the years we’ve continually improved Correct, adding new actives and boosting its effectiveness. In our latest formula upgrade (shipping now to retailers), we included ingredients for improved moisture and texture so that applying and wearing Correct is as luxurious as the results. We also improved Correct’s overall ability to fight lines, puffiness and dark circles so your eye area looks better too.

Our most recent improvements to the formula centered around improving hydration and restoring elasticity and with these changes to Correct we’ll get you there! New peptides, more antioxidants, botanicals and skin brighteners all contribute to a better experience and greater results. We also improved Correct’s already divine texture.popular with: 30-somethings & up and anyone with fine lines, dark circles or puffy eyes.”

Here is my full science-based analysis of the product:

All About Spin Traps

free radical

There’s a reason why you shouldn’t be subjected to too much UV exposure or pollution: Free radicals. Though your body naturally produces a certain amount of free radicals due to natural metabolic processes, you produce far more after exposure to harmful triggers like stress, pollution, and UV light.

This is a terrible thing because free radicals are unpaired electrons. Just like some women (and men) get really hostile and angry when they are unpaired, free radicals will charge after a paired electron, ripping it out of its orbit. Free radicals can also cause significant damage to healthy skin cells and tissues.

Most skin care products and supplements work by providing antioxidants, substances that generally overload free radicals with free electrons they can pair with, so they’re nice and stable once again. But spin traps are different.

Also known as phenyl butyl nitrone, spin traps have the ability to catch an electron as it spins out of control and actually returns it to its normal orbit before it can do any damage (Cosmetic Dermatology). In other words, catching a free radical before it is free to do damage! According to Cosmetic Dermatology, the protective abilities of spin traps comes from their modulation of proinflammatory cytokines. Numerous studies have shown that spin traps have anti-inflammatory and age-reducing effects.  Your Best Face is one of the only skin care lines I know of featuring this ingredient.

Matrixyl 3000®

Your Best Face CORRECT Eye Cream is also replete with another favorite ingredient, Matrixyl 3000®.  At the 2002 World Congress of Dermatology in Paris, Matrixyl 3000®was reported to decrease wrinkle depth by 68% and wrinkle density by 47% with twice-daily use over the course of six months. Matrixyl 3000® demonstrates this firming ability by stimulating fibroblasts to produce collagen and increasing hyaluronic acid production in the skin.  Notable results in clinical studies have been achieved with minimum Matrixyl 3000® concentrations of 2%.  Although Your Best Face does not reveal the concentration of Matrixyl 3000®  in their products, its high placement on the ingredients list suggests it is close, if not there.

Haloxyl®

haloxyl

What makes Your Best Face Eye Cream so amazing is that it works well, regardless of the cause of your dark circles. A little-known fact is that dark circles can be caused by either hyperpigmentation or blood pooling. The vast majority of ingredients that claim to overcome dark circles treat hyperpigmentation.

However, Haloxyl® is a mix of the ingredients palmitoyl pentapeptide-7, chrysin, N-hydroxysuccinimide and EDTA.  Together, Haloxyl® has been found to facilitate the release of two substances found in blood, bilirubin and iron, which in turn makes the undereye area look lighter and less inflamed (Formulating, Packaging, and Marketing of Natural Cosmetic Products, 2009).

Licorice root extract and arbutin

licorice root

As you all know here at FutureDerm, I’m actually OK with use of hydroquinone as a skin-lightening agent under two conditions: (1) it is used under concentrations of 4%, and (2) it is not used in persons with dark skin types.

That said, hydroquinone has its limitations in the eye area. The ingredient can be too harsh for the skin around the eyes, which doesn’t have oil glands like the rest of the face. Enter licorice root extract and arbutin. On their own, they are interesting: Licorice root extract and arbutin inhibit an enzyme necessary for pigment (melanin) production, called tyrosinase. But unlike hydroquinone, licorice root extract and arbutin do not affect DNA synthesis in doing so. The result? Gentle lightening of dark circles with time.

Caffeine

Caffeine is a vasoconstrictor, and its topical application in products like Your Best Face Eye Cream may reduce the appearance of under-eye puffiness and dark circles with regular use over time.

Personal Use and Opinions

Your Best Face Eye Cream is my mother’s all-time favorite eye cream, and it has been so for the past 6-7 years. She uses it religiously every night, and is always asking me when and where we can get more!

Bottom Line: The Ultimate Eye Cream for Treating Sagging and Puffiness

I know it probably sounds like I’m gushing, but Your Best Face CORRECT Eye Cream is one of my all-time favorite products.  It brightens and firms the undereye skin, and reduces undereye puffiness.  It is also likely to somewhat reduce dark circles that are caused by pigmentation with its lightening ingredients, as well as dark circles that are caused by blood pooling. It’s extremely rare to get both! Bottom line:  A great product, and I’m proud to pass word about this one along to my readers!  Product Rating: 10/10 (High concentration of proven effective ingredients: 3/3.  Unique formulation or new technology: 3/3.  Value for the money: 3/3.  Sunscreen: 0/1, but I gave it a bonus point for overall awesomeness.)
