Exuviance AGE REVERSE Total Correct + Sculpt Serum is a serum that contains a self-proclaimed “Triple Anti-aging Complex,” with acetyl glucosamine, vitamin C, and arginine. [easyazon_link identifier=”B016JBHR0E” locale=”US” tag=”cosmeticswiki-20″]Exuviance AGE REVERSE Total Correct + Sculpt Serum[/easyazon_link] promises to exfoliate and stimulate cell turnover, smooth texture and visibly reduce fine lines and wrinkles, diminish dark spots, create a more even skin tone, and promote collagen and strengthen skin’s support matrix.

Exuviance AGE REVERSE Total Correct + Sculpt Serum obviously promises to do a lot — but does it measure up to its promises? My full analysis is below:

Acetyl Glucosamine Treats Sunspots and Uneven Skin in a Gentle Manner

N-acetyl glucosamine is an ingredient that has been proven to treat hyperpigmentation (Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology, 2006). Unlike many other hyperpigmentation treatments, the effects of glucosamine are significant in hydrating skin as well, as glucosamine is a precursor to hyaluronic acid that has been shown to increase hyaluronic acid production in the skin after regular topical application (Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology, 2006). It has a very high safety profile.

Glucosamine may work best in conjunction with niacinamide. According to a 2007 study in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology, a double-blind, placebo-controlled, left-right randomized study found that n-acetyl glucosamine and niacinamide used in conjunction on one side of the face are more effective than glucosamine alone in treating signs of hyperpigmentation.

Glucosamine has a high safety profile. The aforementioned study also found that n-acetyl glucosamine and niacinamide have high tolerance in the skin, and thus should not cause irritation in most formulations.

In[easyazon_link identifier=”B016JBHR0E” locale=”US” tag=”cosmeticswiki-20″]Exuviance AGE REVERSE Total Correct + Sculpt Serum[/easyazon_link], glucosamine is found in high concentration. The concentration is not listed, but is as high as I have seen in skin care products (estimated 4%). But due to the gentle nature of glucosamine, it should not cause irritation.

A Slew of Silicones Fill in Fine Lines, Keep Skin Plush and Hydrated

Like many serums, [easyazon_link identifier=”B016JBHR0E” locale=”US” tag=”cosmeticswiki-20″]Exuviance AGE REVERSE Total Correct + Sculpt Serum[/easyazon_link] promises to make skin look and feel better from the first use. Most of the time, companies that promise instant results are packing their products with silicones, and [easyazon_link identifier=”B016JBHR0E” locale=”US” tag=”cosmeticswiki-20″]Exuviance AGE REVERSE Total Correct + Sculpt Serum[/easyazon_link] is no exception.

I’m personally fine with the use of silicones, and furthermore actually like them.

Exuviance AGE REVERSE Total Correct + Sculpt Serum contains a variety of silicones, ranging from lightweight to heavyweight.

Dimethicone is a heavier silicone that protects and hydrates the skin a little better than the others. Dimethicone instantly fills in lines and wrinkles, hydrates on contact, and allows the skin to breathe.

The difference between dimethicone and lighter silicones like cyclopentasiloxane/cyclohexasiloxane is that the latter fill in fine lines and wrinkles better. In addition, I generally recommend the heavier dimethicone for dry to normal skin types, whereas I recommend the lighter cyclopentasiloxane for oily or acne-prone skin types. But in a serum like [easyazon_link identifier=”B016JBHR0E” locale=”US” tag=”cosmeticswiki-20″]Exuviance AGE REVERSE Total Correct + Sculpt Serum[/easyazon_link], the mix should be fine for all but the most dry of skin types, which will require more hydration in the form of an additional moisturizer applied over top.

Ascorbyl Glucoside Has Been Shown to Lighten Sunspots, Even Skin Tone

Ascorbyl glucoside is simply L-ascorbic acid combined with a sugar molecule. The combination of the two increases the stability of vitamin C, so you don’t get that characteristic yellow color that means the L-ascorbic acid is oxidizing and losing potency. The downside to this is that it requires a higher concentration of ascorbyl glucoside to get the same results as L-ascorbic acid: 15% ascorbyl glucoside is 7.5% L-ascorbic acid and 7.5% glucose, whereas 15% L-ascorbic acid is just 15% L-ascorbic acid, after all.

Once applied to the skin, ascorbyl glucoside is broken down into L-ascorbic acid and glucose by the naturally-occuring skin enzyme alpha-glucosidase. The good news is, because ascorbyl glucoside is broken down into L-ascorbic acid, it has the same functions as L-ascorbic acid: exhibiting high antioxidant activity, acting as a coenzyme for enzymes involved in collagen synthesis (namely prolyl and lysyl hydroxylase), and inhibiting the synthesis of melanin.

Overall, I find ascorbyl glucoside to be a weaker form of vitamin C. Rarely do I think ascorbyl glucoside is superior to L-ascorbic acid, unless it is found in 20% or higher concentration.

Personal Use and Opinions

[easyazon_link identifier=”B016JBHR0E” locale=”US” tag=”cosmeticswiki-20″]Exuviance AGE REVERSE Total Correct + Sculpt Serum[/easyazon_link]is a clear, odorless serum. It has a funny texture: It is not a thick serum and it spreads easily enough across the skin, but it has a “feel” to it that lingers, filling in fine lines and wrinkles with its high silicone content. It is slightly sticky once absorbed.

How to Use

Using fingertips, gently apply to cleansed face. Can be smoothed all over the face and neck either alone or under treatment and moisturizer.

Bottom Line

[easyazon_link identifier=”B016JBHR0E” locale=”US” tag=”cosmeticswiki-20″]Exuviance AGE REVERSE Total Correct + Sculpt Serum[/easyazon_link] is a great serum for sunspots and uneven skin tone in those who have sensitive skin types. While I find other ingredients like concentrated glycolic acid peels at 20% or higher, L-ascorbic acid serums at 15% or higher, and the controversial hydroquinone to treat hyperpigmentation faster than glucosamine and ascorbyl glucoside, the other ingredients can also come with significant irritation or peeling of the skin, which glucosamine and ascorbyl glucoside do not. While I personally will be sticking with the more concentrated versions of AHAs, L-ascorbic acid, and hydroquinone for my own sunspots, I do certainly see the need on the marketplace for a sensitive skin-minded age spot treatment like [easyazon_link identifier=”B016JBHR0E” locale=”US” tag=”cosmeticswiki-20″]Exuviance AGE REVERSE Total Correct + Sculpt Serum[/easyazon_link]. For best results, use twice daily for at least 6-8 weeks.
