About The Owner
My name is Nicki Zevola, and I am a medical student at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.
Dermatology is my passion, and I love to learn as much as about it as I can. I hope that my blog will give me the opportunity to regularly learn and share my findings with others, and to learn from their inputs as well.
Currently, I am going to medical school full-time, conducting research part-time, and maintaining this blog, so please excuse any delays in my writings.
In The Press
FutureDerm.com has been selected as a top beauty blog by Health magazine online (September 2009), as well as a Top 50 Beauty Blog (Konector.com) and a Top 100 Beauty Blog. FutureDerm.com is also a part of the Total Beauty and AllTop Networks, and has been featured as a research-intensive site on SuTree. FutureDerm.com was also instrumental in the 2008 Redken Fashion Week Blogging Contest, for which Nicki served as a finalist.
About Contacting Me
Please feel free to contact me at Nicki [at] FutureDerm.com. I would love to be able to answer every e-mail that I receive. Unfortunately, due to my commitments to medical school/research schedule, as well as increased traffic to the site recently, I am no longer able to respond to every question that I receive, and I apologize. Your comments and questions are certainly very important to me, but it is difficult to address every request for product reviews, skin care ingredient interactions, personalized skin care regimes, etc. Please note also that I am a medical student, and thus cannot/will not give personalized medical advice yet. My sincerest apologies.
With that said, please still do feel free to contact me with any comments or requests that you may have. I do take them all to heart!
About the Articles
My articles are based primarily on research from scientific research journals. I place the greatest emphasis on independent (i.e., non-company affiliated) clinical reviews that evaluate a large number of studies. However, the number of these that currently exist for skincare ingredients is very limited.
My next emphasis is on well-designed studies (large size, multi-center, placebo-controlled, randomized).
My last point of focus is on the remaining quality of studies, which unfortunately seems to be the majority of information available in many instances. I try, however, particularly in more recent entries, to establish that these studies need to be replicated and evaluated by an independent (objective) third party.
Occasionally, opinions will be given about a product by myself or another blogger, usually from personal experience after using a product. I try to keep personal opinions to a minimum on the site, and add them only when I think it would be helpful (or just fun) for the reader.
Please address questions or concerns to Nicki [at] futurederm [dot] com.
