RENÉ FURTERER MASTER CLASS: RUNWAY 101 MERCEDES-BENZ FASHION WEEK SWIM 2015 IN MIAMI BACKSTAGE WITH RENÉ FURTERER AND ADRIEN FLAMMIER FOR THE LULI FAMA “MIAMI NICE” SHOW

Miami’s own swimwear brand Luli Fama is a perennial favorite during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. And in a nod to its fun, sexy and stylish hometown, “Miami Nice,” Luli Fama’s 2015 collection, was a celebration of the exuberance and high spirits of Miami. “It’s about the city of Miami,” said Lourdes “Luli” Hanimian, one half of the creative team behind the celebrity-fave swimwear brand along with her brother-in-law Augusto Hanimian. “I grew up in Miami and later Augusto came to Miami. We’ve seen the transition from the 70s and 80s to what Miami is today and wanted to celebrate that.”Capturing the vibrance of the city, the show opened with performance artists on stilts and dancers all in costume as exotic flamingos complete with quintessential Miami-vibe pink and orange feathery headdresses and cascading boas.

The collection was signature Luli Fama in a palette of tropical colors including coral, turquoise, ocean blue, and colorful prints. Designs ranged from the teeniest little multi-stringed bikini to a halter jumpsuit in a vibrant coral and turquoise print, to a sexy black fishnet cover-up over a skimpy glamorous black bikini to caftans. Crocheted details were seen on swimwear throughout the show along with a crochet-fringed coral dress, with a super sexy coral monokini with fringe as the show’s grand finale piece.

To complete the Miami-inspired look, Luli Fama partnered with René Furterer for the second consecutive year. To turn up the heat on the runway, celebrity hairstylist Adrien Flammier, Senior Hair Stylist of Atelier Emmanuel in San Francisco, led the exclusive René Furterer hair team backstage. Together they worked their magic to bring Luli’s vision to the catwalk. “Luli wants a look that’s sophisticated with loose couture curls, but not too much so as to keep the hair natural,” said Adrien of the show’s hair. Luli added, “We wanted the look to be refined and sophisticated. Since the suits are so sexy we wanted to give the girls a more couture look.” And on working with Adrien backstage? “We love Adrien. He is amazing!” exclaimed Luli.

Top editors and boldface names, including high-profile guests LeAnn Rimes and Eddie Cibrian, watched the stunning designs and breathtaking hair come together along with dramatic, theatrical makeup by Vincent Longo and beachy nails by Zoya as the models brought the sizzling-hot Miami heat from backstage to the runway.

Here we take you behind the scenes for a peek at how Adrien and the René Furterer styling team delivered flawless professional results and head-turning looks exclusively using the ever-versatile René Furterer styling products:

«  Since most of the girls who arrived backstage came with limp hair—a result of the high humidity of Miami—I began by liberally spraying sections of hair with VOLUMEA volumizing conditioning spray – no rinse. Taking hair from underneath at the bottom layers and working my way to the crown, I saturated hair with product, then massaged it into hair with my hands prior to brushing it through.

«  I removed the nozzle from my blowdryer, before rough-drying hair, using my hands instead of a brush to keep the natural texture of the hair. For models with fragile, chemically-treated and frizzy hair, instead of VOLUMEA I used AFTER SUN LEAVE-IN MOISTURIZING SPRAY on hair to close the cuticle and hydrate hair. LISSEA thermal protecting smoothing spray was then sprayed to protect hair from heat damage from the next steps. LISSEA thermal protecting smoothing spray also helps to repel the effects of humidity.

«  After hair is rough-dried, I made a vertical part from the top of the ear to the crown to separate sides and front of hair from the back. Then I clipped hair in the back to the side to focus on styling hair on the sides.

«  Next, using either the tail of a rattail comb or my fingers, I made one-inch sections in diagonal lines and wrapped them around a medium-barrel curling iron, holding for just a few seconds before releasing the clamp toward the middle part I created. I then slipped the barrel out and let the curl drop. We don’t take sections that are too skinny as we want to create loose curls and we don’t want to make them too tight.

«  I worked my way to the crown on either side of part, and then applied the same method of curling for the hair in the back, wrapping the hair vertically around the curling iron in both directions so the resulting curls aren’t too uniform.

«  Once all hair is curled, I gathered hair in back and tied it up in a large hair net, sort of like a snood. This is to keep the curls from drooping and falling out due to the humidity, while the models get their makeup done. At times, I would remove the net, to brush hair smooth at crown, directing it away from the face before wrapping hair in the net once more.

«  Once hair was removed from the net, a few models needed a little touching up with the curling iron to revive definition of curl and give it more support.

«  Last, I loosened up hair with a large paddle brush and my hands and gave hair a final misting of VEGETAL FINISHING SPRAY and GLOSSING SPRAY on each side of the middle part. While some models had island flower garland crowns, a fedora or floppy hats, all models walked the runway with glossy, gorgeous hair with loose, luxurious couture waves!

Scott E. Newman MD, FACS Now Offers Thermi-RF™ Skin Tightening at the Advanced Plastic Surgery & Laser Center in New York

New York, NY – Board Certified Plastic Surgeon Scott E. Newman MD, FACS has acquired one of the only Thermi-RF™ Skin Tightening systems in the New York City area. The Thermi Radio Frequency (RF) machine contracts and tightens the skin from the inside out, with a procedure that is almost completely noninvasive and really works. Thermi tightening can help to improve and smooth away loose, sagging skin and wrinkles on different parts of the body with the simple use of an injectable radiofrequency delivered by a needle-sized probe called a thermistor, which monitors and controls temperature for optimal results and complete patient safety. The procedure delivers exceptional results in tightening, but also increases the skin’s collagen supply, restoring its elasticity and suppleness with immediate and lasting results for patients.

Dr. Newman’s practice, The Advanced Plastic Surgery & Laser Center, has three offices in the New York metro, and he is the only doctor in Westchester and Long Island to have this machine, and one of just a few plastic surgeons offering ThermiTight™ in Manhattan. This groundbreaking technology makes it easier and less invasive to treat skin laxity, melting away fat and delivering results that patients love with very little downtime.

“Thermi-RF is a game-changer,” says Scott E. Newman MD, FACS. “For years we’ve known that Radio-Frequency, when delivered to the base of the skin, will make the skin more elastic and tighter. Thermage has always been the most effective device available, but it becomes less effective where the skin is thicker. Thermi-RF lets us significantly tighten areas where the skin is thick and it is a great alternative—and sometimes a better choice—than surgery…and I’m saying that as a surgeon!”

ThermiTight can be effective in as little as one treatment, but depending on the area being treated, multiple treatment sessions may be needed. The Thermi-RF machine causes contraction and coaxes the desired tightening results for skin no matter how thick or thin. Some common areas effectively addressed by Thermi-RF Tightening include:

  • Reducing fat deposits along the back and bra line
  • Smoothing and slenderizing the face and neck
  • Tightening the tummy and thighs
  • Reducing skin laxity in just about any part of the body.

To ensure patient safety at all times, the Thermi-RF probe features two tips—one that operates as a thermometer, and the other that delivers the radiofrequency skin treatments. The temperature of the tissues inside the skin is constantly measured by the tip of the Thermi device in real-time while an infrared camera component monitors the surface of the skin. The thermistor is inserted under the skin and begins to deliver safe, controlled levels of heat to the tissues from the inside, resulting in slight changes to the tissues and sparking production of new elastic collagen. Skin becomes smoother and more flexible, and remains scar free, since the only incision required is to insert the tiny, needle-sized Thermi electrode beneath the skin. The procedure requires only local anesthesia, generally lasts just one hour, and patients typically return to their daily activities without missing a beat.

Through the use of the Thermi device, Dr. Newman is able to improve the skin’s appearance by contracting and tightening the skin from the inside rather than the outside. Results are noticeable immediately, but also over the course of the three to six months following the procedure. Dr. Newman has completed numerous Thermi procedures, specifically for the face and neck in place of traditional lifts, in his three offices since acquiring the device earlier this year. As a true testament to its success, Dr. Newman has undergone Thermi skin tightening procedures himself, becoming keenly aware of all aspects of this complete game changer in the world of plastic surgery technique.

FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Scott E. Newman MD, FACS is a leading board certified plastic surgeon in the New York City area who has performed more than 4,000 cosmetic & reconstructive breast and body procedures to date. He also has extensive experience using less invasive lasers and machine-based treatments for skin and facial rejuvenation. Dr. Newman is the only plastic surgeon in the Long Island and Westchester areas of New York to offer Thermi skin tightening treatments, and one of just a few doctors in Manhattan to have a Thermi device at his practice, The Advanced Plastic Surgery & Laser Center. Thermi Radiofrequency (RF), also known as Thermi-RF™ or ThermiTight™, is a very safe and effective type of injectable radiofrequency used to smooth and tighten the skin, no matter how thick or thin, often in as little as one single treatment. The procedure makes use of a needle-sized probe called a thermistor, which monitors and controls temperature in plastic surgery and dermatology procedures designed to tighten and contract loose or sagging skin. This groundbreaking medical equipment ensures patient safety and immediate and lasting results through skin tightening procedures that work from the inside out. BeautiControl may be one of the best kept secrets in the world of beauty, but while it may be unknown to many, it was actually founded over three decades ago and touts a large and passionate fan-base of women across the country.  This is very much thanks to the powerful personal relationships that the brand is built on – relationships which have been cultivated by its more than 75,000 consultants.

Now BeautiControl, in the midst of a total re-branding, is showing off a fresh, sleek new look and a “be you. be beautiful.” philosophy that speaks to what so many women are looking for in a beauty line.  The first big unveiling is the newly designed color collection, which includes the introduction of seven new products, all of which will launch in August on BeautiControl.com:

Butterfly Studio Releases Summer Hair Braid Guide

Butterfly Studio hair guide

With summer in full effect, we’re constantly thinking about ways to stay cool. Frizziness and dryness are among the hair issues that we are constantly combating during these hot, humid days. Luckily, Butterfly Studio Salon stylist Jason J. Dougherty breaks down a super-chic, frizz-fighting braid that will take you from the office to happy hour, and will even withstand the long, sweaty commute all the way home!

The Office Look

“This chic work look is a variation of the Milkmaid Braid. By placing the braids on the bottom, they sport a polished look that is ideal for any professional woman. Instead of bringing the braid to the crown, I took two very large sections of french braids and crossed them before pinning up. Add in some texture for softness and allow pieces to fall around the face for an ultra-effortless look.” – Jason J. Dougherty, Butterfly Studio Salon stylist.

1. Comb the hair and work out all tangles.

2. Apply a light oil like Oribe Gold Lust Hair Oil and work through the ends.

3. Create a center part and bring it all the way down to the back. Divide hair in two sections.

4. Place a smoothing balm such as Shu Uemura’s Touch of Gloss on the roots and work into the crown.

5. Comb hair nice and taught and begin a thick French Braid on one side of the head. Place elastic rubber band to hold ends. Repeat on other side.

6. Bring one braid up and anchor to head with bobby pins. Repeat on the other side.

Interview with Dr. Halland on the Vampire Facial

Dr Halland - Bricks
1.) How does this work from a scientific perspective? Is it the increase in blood flow, the increase in growth factors/cytokines from the blood, or something else?

PRP is rich in platelets and growth factors, where the levels can be 3 – 7 times higher than normal blood concentration.  These cell signals help stimulate stem cells, and trigger the growth of collagen, as well as blood vessels that deliver oxygen to bodily tissues.

2.) Are there research studies to validate it? If yes, can you send them to me or links?

PRP has been used in medicine for many years, especially in cosmetics. Research evidence suggests that PRP combined with cosmetic techniques (via injection, micro-needling, fillers, etc) can stimulate the wound- healing process, and new collagen formation via the stimulation of growth factor synthesis. There are several studies out there that address skin rejuvenation with the use of PRP.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3229934/pdf/ad-23-424.pdf

3.) How much does it cost?

$600/session: Micro-needling + PRP, or a Package of 3 Sessions for $1500 total.

4.) How long do effects last?

Effective for 9 – 18 months.

5.) Who is the ideal candidate?

Most adults with signs of aging are good candidates, especially fine lines and wrinkles. It is also ideal for patients who want to improve their skin complexion and texture. This is particularly helpful for individuals with fine scarring from acne, for example.

6.) Who should NOT have this procedure?

Individuals with platelet dysfunction syndromes, thrombocytopenia, or other bleeding disorders. Patients on anti-coagulant therapy are also not suitable candidates.

7.) Does it hurt?

Some patients may experience some discomfort, however, by applying a topical numbing cream prior to the procedure, it is very well tolerated. It can often be described as feeling similar to dermabrasion or acupuncture.

8.) Are there health risks?

PRP facial injections are minimally invasive and safe. Since the PRP is derived from one’s own blood there are virtually no side effects or allergic reactions. After a Vampire Facial there can be some slight swelling and tenderness for 1 to 2 days.

9.) Should you get the procedure again after the first one’s effects wear off?

The best results are seen with a total of 2-3 treatments given about 1 month apart. After the initial treatment series, maintenance injections can be given once or twice a year, depending on the desired level of skin rejuvenation wanted by the patient.

10.) What are the benefits?

PRP facials have regenerative effects on the skin, slowing or reversing the signs of aging. While it may not replace a facelift, it offers a natural and more gradual way to help tighten the skin and build collagen to improve skin texture and color. It is effective for fine lines, helps with acne scarring and can improve one’s complexion after a treatment course.

How to Look Years Younger without Going under the Knife

EDGEWATER, Maryland – (July 21, 2014) – As people age, they are often looking for the fountain of youth. If there is a way to turn back the clock, even a few years, most people are interested in learning more about it. In fact, The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery reports that there are over 10 million cosmetic surgery procedures each year in America. For those who would like to look younger, but don’t want to go under the knife, there are options available.

“There are procedures for every person’s comfort level,” explains Dr. Sanjiv Saini of MD Dermatology, with locations in Edgewater and Lexington Park, Maryland. “Whether you want something minimally invasive, such as precision neck contouring, or you want something more like a chemical peel, there’s something for everyone.”

There are numerous options that people can choose from in order to look younger, as well as get a boost in their confidence. Here are a few ways to look years younger without going under the knife:

  • Consider non-surgical procedures. There are several non-surgical treatment options that people can choose from to help turn back the clock. Consider such options as injections (e.g., Botox, Juvederm, Radisse), which is something that 3.7 million people per year opt for. Additional options include microdermabrasion and laser treatments. These treatments can help minimize wrinkles, aging spots, and more.
  • Get moving. Maintaining a regular exercise plan is important to help slow the aging process. Be sure to do both cardio and weight-bearing exercises throughout the week to maximize the benefits. Staying active also helps with balance, endurance, and strength. Additionally, add something to your routine that reduces stress, such as tai chi or yoga.
  • Eat your veggies. Fruits and vegetables are loaded with antioxidants, which help to keep your body healthy and aging better. Load up on fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean protein, and be sure to get plenty of water.
  • Get plenty of rest. Getting poor sleep or not getting enough sleep is associated with a poorer quality of life, according to the National Institutes of Health. Adults of all ages need to have seven to nine hours of sleep per night.
  • Watch the sun exposure. Sun exposure in small amounts is needed for the body to make vitamin D, but more than that and you are risking skin cancer. Those who spend a lot of time in the sun are at risk for it prematurely aging their skin. Take precautions when going out into the sun, such as wearing a hat, sunscreen, seeking shade, etc.

“Even small measures to turn back the aging can have great results,” added Dr. Saini. “Combine a few of these options and you will feel and look years younger. The options are available for those who want to look younger.”

Increasing Numbers of Brides are Getting Regenerating Procedures, Including Botox and Fillers

Wedding season is here, which means bridal beauty prep is officially in overdrive. Beyond the usual hair, makeup and nail routines, a recent study by the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS) sheds light on a new component – - cosmetic tweaks.

Data shows that weddings are the number one special event driving women of all ages towards aesthetic treatments. Injectables such as BOTOX® and hyaluronic acid, delivering rapid results are an easy favorite. The AAFPRS details that the most popular injection sites include the forehead, cheeks, and lips.  The same report details that for the past two years nose jobs, eyelifts and facelifts were the most requested procedures prior to a wedding.

“Our members noted a 58% increase in cosmetic surgery and facial injectables in those under the age of 30 last year,” said Edward Farrior, MD, president of the AAFPRS. “Advances in techniques, reduced recovery times and a growing number of non-invasive options make plastic surgery more appealing to brides looking for a quick fix prior to their big day.”

How to Fight Turkey Neck — From Dr. Sanjiv Saini of MD Dermatology

EDGEWATER, Maryland – (July 14, 2014) – Although we may be months away from Thanksgiving, many people talk about “turkey neck.” What they are referring to, however, is the often unsightly loose skin that is sagging beneath their chin. While this turkey neck may be common, especially as people age, it is not something that people have to put up with if they would like to make a change. There is help for those who have this problem, and it’s called precision neck contouring.

“We are thrilled to be the first office in the county to offer precision neck contouring,” explains Dr. Sanjiv Saini of MD Dermatology, with locations in Edgewater and Lexington Park, Maryland. “This procedure provides those who have ‘turkey neck,’ as well as other neck skin problems, with a solution. And it’s one that is effective and long-lasting.”

Those who have sagging skin under their chin are ideal candidates for precision neck contouring, a procedure that is conducted under the direction of a trained and experienced dermatologist. Here are a few things to know about getting precision neck contouring to help eliminate turkey neck:

·      Precision neck contouring can be used to address the sagging, loose skin under the chin that is often caused by flaccid muscles, as well as by fat accumulation. The procedure involves three holes that are made right below the ears and under the chin, with the area numbed, in order to remove the fat and tighten the skin.

·      This high-tech procedure is the most advanced option available for treating trouble spots where fat collects. The treatment addresses the laxity of the skin, giving it a firmer, tighter appearance.

·      The procedure is minimally invasive and requires minimal downtime for recovery. No general anesthetic is required, and patients generally can leave the office after a 30-minute recovery period. Within a few days, patients are able to return to normal activities, and can go back to strenuous activities after two weeks.

·      The results produced by precision neck contouring last longer than with other treatment options, such as having injections done. It provides people with the opportunity to turn back the clock and do away with turkey neck.

“With precision neck contouring, people generally see the results in 24 hours, but they will see the best results 3-6 months down the road,” added Dr. Saini. “It’s a highly effective procedure that can provide successful results for eliminating the dreaded turkey neck. And having it done over the summer will help ensure that your turkey neck is gone by this Thanksgiving.”

MD Dermatology offers a full line of clinical dermatology procedures in addition to precision neck contouring, including laser services, injection services, microdermabrasion, chemical peels, and more. They are a medically directed spa that offers a wide range of services to meet the unique needs of every patient. For additional information, visit their site at: www.mddermatology.com.

For last night’s red carpet, Avon Global Celebrity Makeup Artist Lauren Andersen gave Jessica Alba bronze goddess look inspired by her gold one shoulder dress, and gave Chrissy Teigen an edgy look to compliment her new hair color.

Botched Patient Can Literally Flip Her Butt Implants—Watch the Insane Clip!

Botched Butt Implant

As I’m sure you’ve seen around the web, E! TV has a new show this season called Botched, highlighting plastic surgery procedures gone wrong. One of the unfortunate stories highlights a woman with horribly executed plastic surgery on her butt, see clip here:  http://www.eonline.com/shows/botched/news/556756/botched-patient-can-literally-flip-her-butt-implants-watch-the-insane-clip

Almost hard to watch, the woman is able to actually flip her buttock implant around- inside her body! Wondering how this could possibly happen, we have asked Brazilian Buttock-Lift expert Dr. William Bruno from Beverly Hills to answer a few questions for us…

Q: How could this have happened?!

A: This patient has silicone injections into the buttock which were then later removed. At the time of the silicone injection removal, she simultaneously had silicone buttock implants inserted. This was the problem in this case.

Q: How would you (or would you even be able to) treat someone who came in with this kind of problem?

A: The implants should have been placed 6-12 months later, after the area had a chance to heal. I would now remove the implants and wait about 12 months before then filling in the area with fat and possible removing some excess skin from the lower portion of the gluteal crease.

Q: This patient had silicone injections and then an implant. What are the risks of these procedures? Would you have done this yourself?

A: Silicone injections are not FDA approved and are not recommended for injection into any part of the body. There are numerous complications associated with injected silicone (infection, scar tissue) and it is very difficult to remove without leaving significant deformity in it’s place. I would never inject silicone.

Buttock Implants can have the following complications: implant mobility (as seen in the video clip), infection, hard scar tissue formation, wound healing problems with the scar- just to name a few! Most surgeons choose to augment and reshape the buttock with a fat transfer procedure (also known as a Brazilian buttock lift). The transferred fat will be much softer and more natural looking than gluteal implants. I feel that most (not all) gluteal implants appear unnatural looking compared to fat transfer procedures for buttock augmentation.

Wink Brow Bar Organic Threading Reduces Inflammation, Reduces Micro-Tearing of the Skin

Wink Brow Bar 1

THINK: The ancient art of beautiful brows reinvented for modern women

WHAT IT IS: A premium, results-oriented brow boutique offering brow shaping and facial hair removal. The art of

threading dates back to the days of Cleopatra, but the super speedy method continues to be one that is far from easy to master.

Done correctly, it offers precise, natural looking brow shaping without the skin tugging and inflammation of waxing. Get

beautiful results, every time at Wink Brow Bar which brings the age old beauty secret to Manhattan’s chic West Village. All

of Wink Brow Bar’s threaders are highly experienced and authentically trained to accurately shape gorgeous brows. The

brow boutique offers threading using 100% organic thread in a chic, pristine setting where guests can sip mimosas and

champagne while being taken care of by true artisans. Along with threading, Wink Brow Bar also has a full service menu

that includes everything from silky eye lash extensions to Parisian facials with exclusive skincare brand Isabelle Lancray,

bringing global beauty culture to the West Village. The youth-restoring Isabelle Lancray facials feature vitamins, hyaluronic

acid, and collagen that provide efficacious anti-aging.

Wink Brow Bar 3

Though founder Umbreen Sheikh didn’t find her calling as a brow guru until taking time off from her career as a PR director

to raise two children, she was practically born into the beauty business. Umbreen’s mother was known as a master facialist

with a chain of hair and beauty salons across London where she introduced trendy Londoners to threading. Umbreen gained

experience helping out at the salons where she and her mother had clients who would come from all over the country to line

up at the small shops. After moving to New York, Umbreen began searching for a clean, upscale threading salon but to her

surprise, it was near impossible to find. This realization sparked the birth of Wink Brow Bar, New York’s premier threading

bar, in 2012.

Wink Brow Bar 2

At Wink Brow Bar, Umbreen is dedicated to educating women on the benefits of threading which removes hair cleanly and

with more precision than waxing. Ideal for sensitive skin, threading eliminates the possibility of irritations from wax chemicals

as well as burning from hot residue. Waxing also pulls at the skin, potentially causing premature aging around the delicate

eye area. Instead, Wink Brow Bar’s master threaders cleanly remove all unwanted facial hair, twisting organic thread

around hair to pull it completely from the follicle. Though threading is not currently standardized when it comes to sanitation

procedures and technique, Wink Brow Bar endeavors to do just that, providing clients with the highest possible standards.

“Threading is beloved in countries like India and Pakistan, but I found that not many women in New York are as aware of its

advantages—especially since the threading places that did exist in New York are mostly very small and drab with very little

communication between the threader and the client,” says Umbreen Sheikh. “I wanted to bring this beauty culture to New

York in the most authentic and premium way, in a setting that is comfortable, clean, and welcoming.”

Toxins in Lipstick

5 Harmful Chemicals That May be Lurking in Your Makeup

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. (July 16, 2014) – We live in a world where makeup is big business. In fact, sales are estimated to reach over $58 billion this year for cosmetics. With the natural and organic makeup sector growing to $9 billion in sales, according to the Organic Monitor, it’s clear that people are searching for safer products. As people focus on how the makeup they wear looks, they may be missing out on what’s lurking inside that may potentially damage their health.

“People love to wear makeup, and that’s understandable, but it is important to pay close attention to the quality of makeup and what ingredients are in it,” explains Crystal Wellman, owner of the Crystal Clear Acne Clinic. “Even being natural or organic doesn’t necessarily mean there’s nothing harmful in it.”

While there are numerous chemicals that go into makeup, there are some that stand out more than others as ones that should be avoided. Here are 5 potentially harmful chemicals that may be lurking in your makeup:

  1. Phthalates. Occurring in many types of cosmetic and personal care products, phthalates have come under fire for their possible link to endocrine disruption and developmental and reproductive toxicity, according to the Breast Cancer Fund.
  2. Lead. Often found in sunscreen, lipstick, foundation, and other cosmetics, lead is a neurotoxin, which can lead to behavioral and learning problems. It has also been linked to such things as infertility, early puberty, and miscarriages.
  3. Aluminum. This metal is believed to mimic estrogen, which can lead to DNA damage. It is also under suspicion by many who find it may have an association with breast cancer occurrence.
  4. Talc. A mineral, this has had mixed results that have linked it to certain types of cancer.
  5. FD&C Colors and coal tar. Certain colorings can give people allergic reactions and have been linked to various health problems. Coal tar has also been linked to cancer.

“Rather than simply like the color or name brand on cosmetics, take a look at the ingredients,” added Wellman. “If you find harmful chemicals in there, choose something else. They are not worth the risks that you may be taking by using them on a regular basis.”

Crystal Clear Acne Clinic is a new full-service skin care clinic located at located at 1210 Princess Anne St. Suite A in Fredericksburg, Va.
