Best New Spring Lip & Cheek Products

Best New Lip and Cheek Products Spring 2014

Today I’ve got the best new lip and cheek products for spring to share with you. Several companies have come out with some great new beauty products that you don’t want to miss!

Too Faced Melted Liquified Long Wear Lipsticks
These are amazing! They combine the lasting power of a stain with the intense color of a liquid lipstick. They have a great shine, like a gloss, but if you dislike that you can blot it to make it more matte. The tip of the tube is unique and it allows for you to apply the color precisely without needing a lipliner. There are 7 shades – Melted Nude, Melted Peony, Melted Coral, Melted Fuchsia, Melted Ruby, Melted Violet and Melted Candy. Melted Candy is a Sephora VIB exclusive. I have them all and they are gorgeous and moisturizing, very comfortable to wear.

Josie Maran Argan Infinity Lip And Cheek Creamy Oil
These are a hydrating lip and cheek formula that starts as a cream and melts into an oil, giving you hydrating without a greasy finish. It comes in 6 shades – Endless Honey (rosy nude), Boundless Berry (rich cool wine), Endless Guava (vibrant poppy pink), Always Cherry (vibrant cool red), Timeless Coral (vibrant warm coral), and Limitless Pink (medium pink). I picked up Endless Honey and liked it so much I ran out and purchased Boundless Berry and Endless Guava too. The shades are easy to mix together for a custom color too.

tarte Airblush Marauja Blush
This is a new cream blush formula infused with maracuja oil. It’s supposed to give you a lovely, soft focus finish. There are three shades – Shimmering Pink (cool rosy pink), Shimmering Peach (warm rosy peach), and Shimmering Poppy (warm reddish coral). I’ve got my eye on Shimmering Pink and Shimmering Peach.

NARS Matte Multiples
These are fabulous matte products that can be used on the cheeks, lips and eyes. There are 6 shades available – Altai (rose bronze), Anguilla (ginger pink), Exumas (pink apricot), Laos (rose coral), Siam (poppy red), and Vientiane (copper bronze. I have Altai and Anguilla and they’re very flattering, especially when paired together.

Buxom Full-On Lip Polish
Buxom just released 100 new lip glosses. They are supposed to have a plumping effect, as well as Vitamins A & E. Top picks from me would be Stacy (vivid violet), Rebecca (golden glitz), Ashley (gilded sand), Patricia (vibrant fuchsia), Amanda (crushed diamonds) and Tammy (peach bellini).

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush
While the shade I purchased Ethereal Glow (cool pink) didn’t work out for me, everyone has raved about Radiant Magenta (golden fuchsia). I think Radiant Magenta is the best shade in this collection but there are several other shades including -  Mood Exposure (soft plum), Diffused Heat (vibrant poppy),  Luminous Flush (champagne rose), and Dim Infusion (subdued coral).

If you can only pick 3, I would pick one of the Too Faced Melted Lipsticks, one of the Josie Maran Infinity Lip & Cheek Creamy Oils, and one of the NARS Matte Multiples. So maybe Too Faced Melted Fuchsia, Josie Maran Endless Guava and NARS Altai.

The Beginner's Guide to Fall Lipsticks

The Beginner's Guide to Fall LipsticksSome products purchased by me. Some sent for consideration. All opinions are my own.

Happy Friday! While I know it’s still the thick of Summer for some of us (like me in Sunny Florida), many others are feeling the chill of Fall in the air. I thought it would be the PERFECT time to give you the Beginner’s Guide to Fall lipsticks. This way, you’ll be ready once it’s here! I’ve got 10 of the best lip colors for Fall, including both shimmer and mattes. I even share how I rock a Fall lip.

1. Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in Venom
This bright plum shade is gorgeous and can be blotted down to a just kissed berry shade.

2. Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in Shame
The deepest, darkest, sweetest berry from UD, this shade lets you really vamp it up for Fall.

3. Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in Anarchy
Want a more modern twist on Fall? Try this bright fuchsia shade. Deepen the outer v of your lips with a slightly darker berry shade first, then apply this with a lip brush. Finish with a clear gloss.

4. Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in Naked 2
A smoky eye in the Fall is inevitable, so you’ll need a nice nude like this warm beige-nude.

5. Hourglass Femme Nude Lip Stylo in Nude No. 5
If a warm beige isn’t your style, this golden peach nude is ultra flattering.

6. Too Faced Lip Injection Color Bomb! Moisture Plumping Lip Tint in Never Enough Nude
This tint is light enough to turn a pinky-nude on my pale lips, making it another great choice for a nude lip.

7. Illamasqua Lipstick in Resist
If you’re fond of mattes, this berry violet is stunning.

8. Kat Von D Everlasting Love Liquid Lipstick in Outlaw
Fall wouldn’t be complete without a rich red matte!

9. Bite Beauty High Pigment Matte Pencil in Tannin
This is a beautiful deep poppy red with a satin matte finish.

10. NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Dragon Girl
This classic red matte shade is timeless.

You may be worried about applying such bold lipstick shades, but if you follow my guide, you’ll have nothing to worry about.

1. Prep the lips by exfoliating them with a lip scrub to get rid of any rough spots.
2. Moisturize your lips and let the lip moisturizer sink in. Wait a few minutes and then blot off any extra moisturizer.
3. Using either a clear lip liner like Urban Decay’s 24/7 Glide-On Lip Pencil in Ozone or a matching lip liner color, line the V in your cupid’s bow, making sure that your lines are symmetrical.
4. Follow your lip line to the inner corners of your lips, carefully lining them. Then line your lower lip, starting from the center and working your way towards the inner corners of your lips. Then fill them in. Blot if you feel you have excess lip liner.
5. With a lip brush, apply your chosen lip bold lip shade, starting on the top lip and then filling in the bottom lip.
6. Carefully blot your lips on a tissue.

You’re ready to go!

Product Review: The Cancer Council Australia Sun Care Cosmetics Lipstick SPF 30+

020808-spf-30-lipstick.jpg

The skin on the lips is as susceptible to sun damage as anywhere else. Unfortunately, according to a University of Texas at Austin survey cited in the December 2007 Allure magazine, 71 percent of women do not apply sunscreen to their lips. Thankfully, the following The Cancer Council Australia Sun Care Cosmetics Lipsticks SPF 30+ ($20.00, Sasa.com) offer broad-spectrum UVA/UVB with a high SPF – the highest SPF I have found in a lipstick thus far. In eight different shades, surely there is one that looks (and does) good. For those who prefer lip gloss, The Cancer Council Australia Sun Care Cosmetics Moisturizing Lip Gloss SPF 30+ ($16.50, Sasa.com) offers the same sun protection for a few dollars less.

I particularly love the idea of a high SPF in a lipstick because the SPF on a cosmetics product is rarely the SPF offered with regular application. For instance, any powder product requires about 14 times the amount of normal powder application to receive the SPF listed on the package. So imagine if you lightly apply lipstick, how little SPF you get from a product with SPF 15! At least these lip products offer twice this.

The sunscreen ingredients in the lipsticks are Octyl Methoxycinnamate and Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane; according to Cosmetic Dermatology, patients who are allergic to cinnamic aldehyde and cinnamon oil may also be allergic to octyl methoxycinnamate. Other ingredients include moisturizing lanolin oil and antioxidant vitamin E.

At any rate, an excellent product! Product rating: 9.5/10
