What are the Best Products for Body?

Share Article

Come summertime, when the sweatpants finally get put away, it’s time to take a good hard look in the mirror.

For me, personally, I have been dealing with a few hyperpigmentation scars leftover from mosquito bites. I got them during my November honeymoon, and, quite frankly, I didn’t have to worry about them all winter. But now that I’m looking at buying some scalloped shorts, it’s time to get serious about body skin care!

So here are my picks for 2016:

ViaBuff Levels 2 and 4

levels2&4

I really love these buffs!

While there are always new and exciting exfoliating products being debuted on the market, the ViaBuff Exfoliating Buff really works. Like all exfoliators, the ViaBuff Exfoliating Buff promises brighter and softer skin. But unlike other exfoliators, the ViaBuff Exfoliating Buff is made of a special foam that is gentle for your skin and up to three times more durable than similar loofahs and puffs. Most importantly for FutureDerm readers, the ViaBuff Exfoliating Buff is also the first exfoliator that can be customized to meet your skin type and skin concerns.

Level 1 is for gentle; level 4 is for critically dry skin. Personally, I use level 2 all over, and level 4 on knees, elbows, and extra dry spots.

The  ViaBuff Exfoliating Buffs are available as:

FutureDerm Vitamin CE Caffeic Serum

Antioxidant serums are vital for different reasons in the summer and winter. In the warmer spring and summer months, there is more sun exposure, which means that use of a 15% or greater vitamin C and 2% vitamin E serum can help to boost your sun protection when used under a sunscreen (Acta Dermato-Venereologica). In the winter months, the decreased temperature causes the skin to naturally produce less sebum and oil. Within these oils are some beneficial ingredients, including vitamin E, which helps slightly to protect against UVB damage (Skin Pharmacology and Physiology). So, this means you’re not producing as much protective vitamin E in cooler months, and should supplement it topically. I recommend applying a topical vitamin CE serum, such as our FutureDerm Vitamin CE Caffeic Silk Serum 16+2 or Skinceuticals CE Ferulic, as well as a broad-spectrum UVA/UVB sunscreen of at least SPF 30 each and every day, on all areas that are regularly exposed to the sun, such as the neck, decolletage, and the tops of the hands. (After I apply FutureDerm Vitamin CE Caffeic Silk Serum 16+2 to my face, neck, and decolletage daily, I rub the excess on the backs of my hands!)

Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair Serum

Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair Serum

When it comes to the face, I will stand by what I’ve said before: [easyazon_link identifier=”B0067H6KW2″ locale=”US” tag=”cosmeticswiki-20″]Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair Serum[/easyazon_link] contains what I estimate to be about 0.025% retinol, which is about 20 times lower than what you can get for your face (0.5% retinol).

But when it comes to the body, I actually don’t mind using a weak retinol serum. For one, the area isn’t exposed to all that much UV light (especially not with me, since I live in Pittsburgh). For another, the skin of the body tends to be thin in some areas and thick in others, and I don’t want to be bothered using a more concentrated serum on the thin areas (to try to build up collagen) and a less concentrated serum on the thicker areas (to maintain collagen). Instead, I use [easyazon_link identifier=”B0067H6KW2″ locale=”US” tag=”cosmeticswiki-20″]Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair Serum[/easyazon_link] all over after the bath or shower. It leaves skin smoother, tighter, firmer, and more beautiful overall — and it doesn’t involve a ten-step process, a huge price tag, or multiple products!

Soap and Glory Sit Tight 4D Lower Body Serum

Soap and Glory Sit Tight 4D Lower Body Serum

[easyazon_link identifier=”B0161UQ4RK” locale=”US” tag=”cosmeticswiki-20″]Soap and Glory Sit Tight 4D Lower Body Serum[/easyazon_link] is one of those products that sounds like it would be bullshit-ious (for lack of a better word), but it actually has some incredible ingredients to back up its claims.

For one, sweet almond oil is incredible. Sweet almond oil is the oil most commonly used by massage therapists (About.com). This is because it absorbs into the skin at a pleasant speed and hydrates without becoming too greasy. Combining it with alcohol ensures that the formulation will not be comedogenic and cause breakouts.

Another magical ingredient in [easyazon_link identifier=”B0161UQ4RK” locale=”US” tag=”cosmeticswiki-20″]Soap and Glory Sit Tight 4D Lower Body Serum[/easyazon_link] is actually the caffeine. Caffeine works on skin in the three primary ways: as an antioxidant (fighting future signs of aging), a diuretic (making the skin temporarily appear smoother), and a vasoconstrictor (may help to reduce puffiness and dark circles caused by vasodilation). With cellulite, regular use of caffeine-containing skin care products can help to reduce its appearance, when it is used twice-daily over at least a weeklong period, owing to its diuretic and vasoconstrictive properties.

Overall, I’ll give it to you straight: [easyazon_link identifier=”B0161UQ4RK” locale=”US” tag=”cosmeticswiki-20″]Soap and Glory Sit Tight 4D Lower Body Serum[/easyazon_link] is not a substitute for the gym. It’s not going to make saddlebags on your thighs go away. But if you work out regularly, you are in pretty good shape, and you want something that is going to help to smooth out a small lump or bump here or there, then I highly recommend [easyazon_link identifier=”B0161UQ4RK” locale=”US” tag=”cosmeticswiki-20″]Soap and Glory Sit Tight 4D Lower Body Serum[/easyazon_link]. It gives me that extra boost of confidence I need when heading out to the gym or the pool, and it makes the skin look awesome!

Bottom Line

Your body may have been hidden away all winter, but it doesn’t have to stay that way! I recommend using a high-quality exfoliation buff in the shower, an antioxidant serum and retinoid serum, and a lower-body perfecting serum to help take your body’s skin the extra mile!
