Mascara has been my absolute must-have makeup item since I could wear makeup. I am blessed with naturally long eyelashes but simultaneously cursed with red hair and blonde eyelashes that are invisible to the human eye unless in direct sunlight. That being said, I have probably tried just about every mascara from the drugstore and more, and I have very serious opinions on the matter. I look for a semi-dry formula that won’t clump, a wand with bristles that actually grab the lashes and distribute product, and a waterproof formula. I know waterproof isn’t great for lash health, but I have super oily lids and a tendency to cry at Huggies and ASPCA commercials. It’s exhausting.
I had never heard of Doll 10, but doing a little research I maybe (definitely) teared up.
“Founded by Dr. Doris Dalton after surviving a rare form of cancer and seeing how ravished her skin was, she realized her true purpose and went to work creating products in which women could steal 10 minutes out of their day to get “Dolled Up” with, no matter what they were going through. With her education and lab experience as a doctor, plus 30 years in the beauty industry (including competing for Mrs. America!), Dr. Dalton was able to formulate Doll 10 – a line of clinically-proven, cruelty-free color cosmetics & beauty solutions that are as effective as they are easy to use, because life is chaotic – your makeup doesn’t need to be.”
I was feeling a little guilty about being skeptical of the Doll 10 Effortlash XL Lash Expanding Mascara I was sent to try, but I have standards when it comes to mascara. But after using this mascara for 2 weeks, I can say I was wrong to be skeptical!
Personal Use & Opinion
The description of the Effortlash XL Lash Expanding Mascara says that it “combines a unique vitamin-infused gel formula & custom-designed brush that uses over 400 bristles to create your most incredible lashes.” It also claims to add volume, length, curl, condition, style, and separation with a single stroke while remaining weightless. See, that’s where skepticism came in. I have heard a million and a half mascara ads that have claimed the same thing and more and have left me disappointed, so I was prepared for mediocrity at best. I was so wrong. Right off the bat, the wand is unique with tiny little bristles that look more like teeth (IMO) than mascara wand bristles. Another important thing I noticed right away as a mascara snob was that there was the perfect amount of product on the wand, even when I opened it for the first time.
Applying it was a dream! I usually have to apply 2 coats of my L’Oreal Lash Paradise to get the kind of volume I want and then use a spoolie to get the clumps. This was a totally different story. In seriously just one coat, my lashes were completely darkened and looked longer and thicker. It wore all day for the most part, with a little bit of transfer near my eyebrow after around 12 hours of wear, which to be honest, is expected with my oily lids. Taking it off was also super easy; I didn’t have to rub at my eyes for 10 minutes trying to get it off.
The Only Downside
The only downside I have with this mascara is that it’s not waterproof, which in all fairness is my personal opinion and not a flaw of the product. I wear this mascara to the office and running around doing errands, but I don’t trust it for a night out, which is a bummer because the Effortlash XL Lash Expanding Mascara is IT. I’m not even entirely sure that the formulation could be changed to make it waterproof without compromising its perfection. If Doll 10 happens to create this, I’m buying 100 of them.
Bottom Line
As a career mascara snob, I can fully give the Doll 10 Effortlash XL Lash Expanding Mascara a 10/10. It really does make you look like you’re wearing an amazing pair of natural false lashes, or at the very least add noticeable volume and length. If you’re a waterproof girl like me, this is still worth the splurge — it wears all day and is just an overall great mascara that comes from a great brand. Totally recommend.
