My parents used to always joke that I was a royal pain in the neck.
Now I just have pain. In the neck. In my back. All over. I’ve spent years battling with doctors, trying to get a definitive diagnosis, but in the end, have shrugged my shoulders and adopted the over-used moniker of fibromyalgia, for lack of anything better to call my troubles.
NSAIDS, prescription pain relievers, and sleeping pills are often a part of my daily ritual. I live on DoTerra Deep Blue Rub, Young Living Panaway, my Spoonk Mat and Pillow, and trips to the chiropractor and massage therapist.
I’ve tried so many things for my pain, I couldn’t even begin to list them. So I’m a skeptic, and a bit jaded, at that. But I’ll try anything once.
What is Calm Muscle Oil Blend?
Based in Buena Park, CA, GuruNanda is a premium essential oil company that sources all its oil straight from farm to you. They offer a surprising variety of pure essential oils, both singularly and as blends, as well as diffusers and others.
Their products are sourced from farms all over the world, dependent upon where the plants thrive with highly beneficial reputations. Their distillers are chosen based on how well they understand, respect, and apply pure, ethical, and effective distillation processes. That’s good to see, since some essential oil companies utilize dirty, backwoods farms that transport their oils in plastic, reusable water jugs, which can often damage the delicate properties of the oils.
Offered as either drops or as a roll-on, GuruNanda Calm Muscle Oil Blend is a soothing blend of oils created to relax muscles, soothe tension, and relieve aches and pains. It utilizes a blend of oils who’s attributes include:
- Wintergreen – analgesic, anti-inflammatory, antirheumatic, warming
- Nutmeg – anti-inflammatory
- Eucalyptus – analgesic, anti-inflammatory
- Turmeric – analgesic, anti-inflammatory, antirheumatic
- Ginger – warming
- Black Pepper – analgesic, anti-inflammatory
- Peppermint – analgesic, anti-inflammatory, invigorating
Diluted with a carrier oil, it’s meant to apply directly to any sore or aching muscles you may have.
My Package Arrived
I grabbed my package out of the mailbox on my way to spending Christmas Eve with my parents. Being an oil, it’s fairly easy for me to apply to my neck and lower back, but almost impossible to reach my mid and upper back and shoulders without losing half of it on the floor. Since I was excited to see how this worked on my pain, I enlisted the help of my mother as soon as I arrived. After all, my entire back hurt, so I wanted to be sure to get a good covering.
As an already-avid user of essential oils, I was prepared with my own fractionated coconut oil, but was pleasantly surprised to find GuruNanda had been gracious enough to send along a bottle of their 100% pure coconut oil to use.
The aroma is described as “camphorous,” though it’s a little more complicated than that. While there’s a bit of a heady minty tone, the overall flavor is woody and earthy. It’s definitely not something most of your coworkers will want to smell, but tolerable. I, personally, actually enjoy the earthy smell, myself, and find it quite pleasant.
The Moment of Truth
I’d been having a very bad painful several months, so honestly didn’t anticipate getting much relief from the blend, but was willing to give it a good shot.
Almost immediately, I could feel a cooling, almost tingling sensation on my skin. Through the course of the next hour, I could feel some of my stiff and sore muscles starting to loosen and relax a bit, offering some relief. I could feel that it continued to last for a while afterwards.
I’ve used it multiple times since, with the same results.
Unfortunately, it isn’t enough of a relief to make me jump for joy. It’s just no match for the hard-core back pain I suffer every day. It just isn’t strong enough to cut it. But then, not much is, so I’m not really holding that over GuruNanda.
GuruNanda Calm Muscle Oil Blend is a welcome addition to my cabinet for use on minor aches and pains, but is still no match for the hard core back pain I suffer every day. This is a great tool to have for a tension headache, soreness after a charlie horse, or some stiff muscles, so I’ll be looking forward to grabbing it for those reasons in the future!
