I saw some of my favorite YouTubers using the Juno & Co microfiber sponge, so I was really excited to give it a try! I am a huge fan of applying makeup with sponges over brushes so this is right up my ally. According to their website, “the JUNO Velvet Sponge is lightweight and made of a microfiber material that’s velvety soft. It has a tapered design for precision and a flat bottom for a more ergonomic and a natural looking application. Because the outer layer is covered with microscopic fibers, it picks up and locks in your makeup products so that it can be applied exactly where you want it, just like a makeup brush. Wet or dry, your products will blend easily and effortlessly with or without water.”
With a Cream Foundation
The first time I tried this sponge, I used it to apply the Your Skin But Better™ CC+™ Cream. I love sheer coverage foundation and because this sponge doesn’t absorb any excess product I found that my foundation sat on top of the skin instead of absorbing fully. It looked much more full coverage than I am used to so I wasn’t the biggest fan.
With a Water-Based Foundation
I tried it again with the Make Up For Ever Water Blend Face & Body and it worked much better! The foundation looked light, but I still had a good amount of coverage.
Juno & Co also makes a sponge that works for applying powder. I never apply my setting powders with a brush so I was really excited to give this a try. The flat side worked great for baking along the jaw.
Overall I really enjoyed this sponge for days that I want a little bit more coverage. It doesn’t absorb the product the way that my Beautyblender or Real Techniques sponge does. The first time I used the sponge the microfiber was a little rough and it was a little painful to use on my sensitive skin. As I used it more it became softer and much more comfortable to use. I definitely recommend it if you’re a fan of applying makeup with sponges instead of a brush.
