I tried Paula’s Choice The UnScrub because I’ve been so happy with the immediate and continuous results of the 2% BHA. Plus, The UnScrub seemed like it could consolidate my normal two step routine into one, since it both washes and exfoliates. The gentle little bubbles that dissolve as I rub them into my face were an interesting twist on the existing trend of exfoliating moisturizers, too. So, there was a lot to look forward to in this product. Here’s what I found after a month of using it:
A little goes a long way. This is my favorite thing about Paula’s Choice products. I don’t feel like I’m going to blow through the product because it really spreads nicely around my face. This was an important observation because The UnScrub costs more than my usual cleanser, so if it didn’t last the same amount of time or for less time, I would’ve been hesitant to switch without mind-blowing results. I was happy to find that The UnScrub did replace my two step cleansing process. The dissolving beads were nice in theory, I liked them, but… we’ll talk more about them in the cons. I liked that there were no obvious fragrances in the product. I have sensitive skin so I like my products to be absent of unnecessary perfumes, etc. After washing, my face did feel clean and adequately moisturized.
The beads. I was most looking forward to the exfoliating beads because I enjoy this part of the cleansing process. When using them, it feels more like they’re moving around my face rather than doing anything to my face. The consistency of The UnScrub was nice but the beads get lost in it, leaving me feel like they’re ineffective in the exfoliation claim. Although my face feels really clean at the end of washing with The UnScrub, the product does feel like it’s on top of my face instead of absorbing into it.
Paula’s Choice The UnScrub is a good product, but that’s it. I wanted to be more impressed by the beads. The consistency felt topical, I was underwhelmed by the feeling of just moving stuff around on my face. I’ll go back to my usual cleanser with exfoliating beads and cream cleanser and move The UnScrub to my travel toiletry bag. I don’t anticipate purchasing it again.
