I’ve never really been particularly adept at picking out my own foundation or concealer; I’ve spent about half of my life trying to (and barely succeeding at) covering up the dark circles under my eye. My current routine? Applying a CoverGirl highlighting eyeshadow (Champagne) around my eyes to be layered under a pressed powder compact (again, CoverGirl). The result leaves much to be desired (at least in my opinion).
Luckily for me, we have a few products from Dermablend’s well-renowned coverage system, which is aimed to correct unwanted blemishes or dark spots with the power of natural-looking makeup. My products today include the Quick-Fix Concealer, Smooth Indulgence Foundation, and Smooth Indulgence Mineral Finishing Powder. A friend of mine uses Dermablend products for tattoo coverage, so I was intrigued to see how it would fare for my skin.
Quick-Fix Concealer: 82%
Color: 75%
Pigmentation: 100%
I tried the Quick-Fix Concealer ($25.37, amazon.com) in Ivory, but after looking at their other shades online (ten overall), this probably wasn’t the best shade for me; Natural would have been a better choice. The pigmentation was great. Coverage was definitely buildable, which is perfect for when you only need a little bit of coverage for a blemish.
Durability: 50%
The Quick-Fix Concealer isn’t great when it’s by itself, particularly because it isn’t long-lasting. The packaging says that, for longer coverage, you need the setting powder, but I don’t care for products that need to be supplemented by a different one; I’m all about ease and simplicity.
Without the setting powder, the concealer shifted as soon as I touched my eye and continued to do so throughout the day, finally settling into any and every wrinkle around my eye. With the setting powder, the concealer held its place.
Texture: 100%
Finish: 85%
I’m typically not a fan of stick concealers. I’ve found they never really have the right consistency; if they’re too firm, the coverage doesn’t slide on as well, and if they’re too soft, they don’t have the right staying power.
With the Quick-Fix Concealer, I finally felt as if I found the right formula. It slid on easily and blended incredibly well. The finish was a little powdery, but as it was a great improvement over my normal look, I felt as if it were still a step up from my everyday routine.
Smooth Indulgence Foundation: 95%
Color: 85%
Pigmentation: 100%
Again, the Smooth Indulgence Foundation ($33.90, amazon.com) was probably a shade or two light for me; the Nude Beige is the lightest shade they offer. As such, I felt as if I looked a little washed out, but the coverage is unbelievable. My skin tone isn’t that uneven to begin with (or so I thought), but after applying the foundation, my skin transformed into something I can only compare to liquid velvet. I only hope that, one day, my skin looks just as great without this makeup.
Durability: 100%
The Smooth Indulgence Foundation lasted throughout the day without any melting, fading, or anything of the sort.
Texture: 100%
Finish: 90%
I used the sponge that came with the product to apply it; typically, I use my fingers to apply foundation. What surprised me, however, was how smooth the texture was and the way it blended into my skin with such ease. As I mentioned above, the finished product was comparable to liquid velvet. My skin feels smooth, hydrated, and even. With such results, I can’t complain.
Smooth Indulgence Mineral Finishing Powder: 100%
Color: 100%
Pigmentation: 100%
Let me start off by saying that the perfect score in pigmentation might be a little misleading; this is supposed to be more of a sheer powder, so the pigmentation is supposed to be pretty much nonexistent. Thus, the perfect score was awarded because it didn’t have any pigmentation; it was smooth and colorless, exactly how a finishing powder should be.
Durability: 100%
I applied the Smooth Indulgence Mineral Finishing Powder ($22.50, amazon.com) after the foundation, and found it to last all day. Better yet, the powder set the concealer in place so I had minimal settling into the wrinkles around my eyes.
Texture: 100%
Finish: 100%
Overall, the Smooth Indulgence Mineral Finishing Powder had a great lightweight feel to it. It didn’t make my face look powdery, and set both the concealer and foundation in place. My makeup looks the same at the end of the day, so this is definitely a powder I’d recommend if you need something to finish your look.
