I’ve never been a person who’s able to just “roll” with things. I’m pretty intense by nature. I plan every hour of my day. I like to be busy. And I do not typically enjoy small talk.
And when it comes to achieving my goals, I’ve never been much different. Whether it was getting married (i.e., finding “The One”) or achieving career success, I’ve always got a timeline and goals. I’m always reading, researching, planning, and, of course, executing on my plans.
Except…well, I only got married when I gave up on the idea of getting married and having a family. Literally gave up, said I was going to “date around for fun” for a year, and then move my business to New York City. And then I met him, within a few weeks, actually. (Not kidding.)
And then, recently, I was met with a rather exciting opportunity in my professional life. It’s amazing in every way. Except I had finally stopped putting so much intensity around my career goals and earnings, and had said I was going to continue to do my best, while making my family more of a priority. And then, literally within a month, I got the new opportunity. (Still here at FutureDerm, don’t worry.)
And it’s like, I guess if you’re the type of person who is more casually moving through life, then goal setting, research, plans, vision boarding, affirmations, and work work work constantly does the trick and leads to attainment of one’s goals. But I guess if you’re the type of person who lives in this world of super achievement, sometimes laying off the gas pedal can really accelerate things, in its own way.
Or maybe it’s just that I try too hard. I don’t know.
All I can say is this: I’m learning that success in all aspects of life doesn’t have to be an uphill battle. Or, more specifically, that making things more challenging doesn’t necessarily mean their obtainment will be more rewarding. Sometimes life can be easy, and I’m learning to accept that. And calm down some…lol.
