Is the drug indomethacin derived from oatmeal? Also, what specific prostaglandins does oatmeal contain? I am aware that oatmeal contains prostaglandin inhibitors but could not find any information on prostaglandins contained in oatmeal?

  2. Nicki says:

    Hi @Theresa,

Prostaglandin inhibitors are found in oat sativa extract, according to research from Johnson & Johnson/Aveeno a few years back. They found that the oats were able to inhibit inflammatory pathways via prostaglandins.

    Does this help?

  3. theresa says:

I know that prostaglandin inhibitors are found in oats. Are you saying that J & J found that the mechanism of actions by which oats reduce inflammation is because they contain prostaglandins which act on the inflammatory pathways to reduce inflammation or are you saying that oats contain prostaglandin inhibitors which act to reduce prostaglandins which cause inflammation?
