Holiday Gift Guide Skinceuticals

It can be hard to buy people skin care or hair care as gifts. I get it: You don’t want to show up with a product to get rid of wrinkles, nor do you want to insult someone with something that seems overly medicinal or tacky. Thankfully, here’s the last-minute FutureDerm 2017 Holiday Gift Guide to help:

SkinCeuticals CE Ferulic

A cult classic for a reason. 15% L-ascorbic acid, 1% vitamin E. Proven to help prevent future UVA/UVB damage, and to help brighten and tighten current skin. A major win.

Skinceuticals Triple Lipid Restore 2:4:2

This product doesn’t have cult favorite status amongst those with dry to very dry skin, but it should. During my pregnancy, this is the only product that keeps dry skin at bay. And it makes sense: Your skin naturally contains lipids like triglycerides, fatty acids, squalane, wax esters, and cholesterol. These lipids are an important part of your skin’s ability to retain moisture and to keep bacteria out that can lead to inflammation, breakouts, and infection (Cosmetic Dermatology).

But as you age, your skin naturally produces fewer and fewer lipids. And the lipids your skin does produce lack integrity, meaning they may not have the same structure, be able to function as well, or be able to perform at the same level they did when you were young. At any rate, this is the only moisturizer I know of on the market that contains triglycerides, fatty acids, squalane, wax esters and cholesterol. It keeps dry skin at bay — and skin looking youthful and supple.

Skinceuticals Physical Fusion UV Defense

Yep, another Skinceuticals product. But if you’re going to gift a skin care fanatic something she’ll love, it’s hard to beat a broad-spectrum UVA/UVB sunscreen with 6% titanium oxide and 5% zinc oxide. The lightweight formula drinks into the skin quickly, and the tint is great for light to medium skin tones. Win-win.

Philip Kingsley: Elasticizer, Exfoliating Scalp Mask, Flaky Scalp Shampoo, Flaky Scalp Toner

If you have a friend who complains about dry hair, flaky scalp, or even dandruff in the winter months, I highly recommend the Philip Kingsley line for him or her. It’s much more glamorous than Head & Shoulders, and it works:

Step 1: Exfoliate

Exfoliate weekly, or as needed with the Exfoliating Scalp Mask ($30). This will help to remove dead skin cells to counteract the buildup of flakes, as well as keep the scalp environment healthy and supple

Step 2: Wash

Relieve and clear flaky, itchy scalps with this mild yet highly effective, Flaky Itchy Scalp Shampoo ($40), originally created for Sir Laurence Olivier.

Step 3: Tone

Applying a toner to the scalp is as essential as a facial toner. The Flaky Scalp Toner ($36) provides immediate and long-lasting relief from irritation, absorbs excess oil and protects against flaking.

Step 4: Moisturize

To restore strength and elasticity to dry hair, apply a weekly pre-shampoo conditioner, such as Coconut Breeze Elasticizer ($53). If hair is extremely damaged, use it twice weekly or sleep with it in.

Inoar: Absolut Speed Blond, Vegan Multipurpose Mask

This year, everyone is gifting skin care masks as stocking stuffers. But why not gift hair masks? These incredible masks from Inoar are made for every hair type from thick to color-treated to thin. They’re incredible, they work, and they’re fast and easy to use. #unbelievablyGood

Argan Oil Deep Conditioning Mask ($38) – Best for thick hair; moisturizes and hydrates hair, leaving strands feeling undeniably silky, soft, bouncy, and shiny from root to tips

Absolut Speed Blond Mask ($50) – Best for color-treated hair; also ideal for blond, white, grey, and color-treated hair this mask rids hair of brassy tones, for visibly brighter, softer, more hydrated hair

Curls: Whipped Cream, Curl Souffle

Lastly, if you know someone with curly hair, surprise them with the Curls line. There is the Curl Souffle – Curl Cream ($16) – Perfect for loose waves and bouncy curls, this curl cream provides protection against those powerful winter elements while keeping your curls defined and in shape. There is also the Curls Whipped Cream – Heavy Curl Cream ($17) – Enriched with natural oils, exotic butters and nourishing extracts, this thick cream is great for creating hairstyles such as locks or afros. Avocado Oil and Tahitian Coconut Oil help rehydrate hair while giving it that extra flirty bounce.
