High Ankle Strapped Heels for Fall/Winter ’11: Saturday Shopping with FutureDerm

Share Article

This fall/winter, expect to see a lot of action occurring just north of the ankle.   With many women embracing the ultra-femme yet conservative Mad Men style, there’s no better way to add a little flash of sexiness with your long skirt than to add in some ankle strap action.  If you don’t believe me, check out these amazing styles:

Manolo Blahnik Strappy Suede Sandals, $785

Drool-worthy?  Yes, oh yes.  These four-inch, Italian-made sandals replete with padded insole have a deep chocolate brown finish that sets off the season’s jewel tones (i.e., mahogany, sapphire, emerald) quite well.  I warn that they may look a little risque when paired with an above-the-knee skirt, because the ankle straps give the impression that you’re already seeing a lot of skin.  Unless, of course, that’s the effect that you desire…  Just make sure to pair these with a hairstyle and an outfit that looks devastating as you turn to leave – these shoes were made for the grand exit!

DVF Rebel Suede Sandals, $280

There’s a lot to love about Diane von Furstenberg’s Rebel Suede 4.5 inch heeled sandals.  First of all, they are completely on-target with the current trends:  oversized; nude color; small-cut peeptoe; and, an ankle strap to boot.  Yet what I adore most is their versatility.  Pair them with a skirt to be oh-so modern and fashionable, but wear them with pants hemmed 1″ from the ground, and you’ve got a largely traditional look with a figure-flattering heel, and just a peek of toe to be a little cheeky.

Tory Burch Drea Wood Wedge Sandals, $375

It’s hard to pull off designing a shoe that makes it from summer to fall, office to date night, skirts to pants, but somehow, the Tory Burch Drea Wood Wedge Sandal does just that.  With an astonishing 5.5″ heel (and 1″ wedge), the Drea Wood is surprisingly comfortable, considering that it makes your average seventh-grader see eye-to-eye with the average supermodel.  It’s a bold and sexy shoe with a skirt, but looks downright beautiful and austere with a pair of khakis.

Bottom Line

Be on the lookout this fall for at least one pair of heels with statement-making ankle straps!  If they’re nude- or jewel-toned, all the better for the pairing with this season’s trends.  Don’t forget to pair them with both skirts and pants for double-duty impact.
