L’Oreal True Match Super Blendable Crayon Concealer Review

Cosmetics, Reviews, Skin Care

I’m all about making products easier to use by putting them in crayon form. Drawing on makeup is infinitely less hard when its put in a shape with a point that’s reminiscent of something we do minute work with — like writing — every day. Unfortunately, the difficulty in crayon-shaped products is that their consistency is more fickle — too soft and it doesn’t keep form, too hard and it’s too difficult to use.

L’Oreal True Match Super Blendable Crayon Concealer ($8.95, amazon.com) really toes the line of the latter issue, being just a bit too waxy to be a really great concealer. While the idea is grand, the execution leaves something to be desired.

Color: 2.5/5, Pigmentation: 4/5

I ended up trying the warm light/fair instead of the neutral light/fair, so the color on me wasn’t entirely working, but from the swatches it seems the neutral might have been a better shade. Nonetheless, L’Oreal’s crayons don’t have much in the way of color variety (here’s to hoping they add a few!), so I think that a fair number of people will have trouble finding a color that works for them.

The pigmentation was pretty good. It might take care of light under eye circles, but this isn’t a crayon for more heavy-duty hiding. For more serious skin issues, I’d recommend something with a little more oomph.

Durability: 3/5

L’Oreal True Match Super Blendable Crayon Concealer stayed on pretty well, though it might not look its best all day. I found that it caught pretty easily into creases and didn’t stay particularly smooth looking throughout the day.

Texture: 3/5, Finish: 3/5

I found the texture of this to be a little waxy. It’s likely that to keep shape, the concealer crayon needed a firmer formulation, but it doesn’t glide over skin or cover as smoothly as a really good concealer should. Overtime it starts to look a little chalky and go into creases.

Bottom Line

L’Oreal True Match Super Blendable Crayon Concealer has a really handy application technique but the formula could use some work. It doesn’t smooth easily and it can seep into creases and look chalky. There are also not a ton of colors to work with. I think with a slightly smoother formulation and more colors, this crayon could easily become a hit.
