Insofar as novel skincare gadgets go, few have had the success of sonic technology. From spin brushes to skincare infusers, sonic technology is great because it enables the power of skincare to go further than it could purely chemically by adding on mechanical action. Although the Michael Todd Sonic Eraser claims to have a “triplex” infusion technology of combined sonic micro-massage, ionic technology and thermal warming, in truth, it is the sonic micromassage that does the majority of the heavy lifting here.
Like the Clarisonic, the ultrasonic technology behind the Michael Todd Sonic Eraser is that it will vibrate at a rate of 30,000 times a second. The vibrations from the blade are similarly designed to cause serum to be absorbed into your skin more quickly.
.Michael Todd Sonic Eraser is no exception, with sonic technology that enables ingredients to go deeper into the skin. The result is that sallow, hollowed-in looking undereye regions may look fuller and plumper, whereas dark circles are treated more quickly than they would be if you just applied eye cream with your ring finger.
The thing is, you don’t want to use this if you have skin that is sensitive, or which tends to get brown spots with trauma. For instance, pregnant women should not use it, due to the heightened risk of melasma. I’m also skeptical that this serum/device duo can do anything for puffy eyes– if anything, I would think that hydrating aloe and niacinamide plus potentially allergenic oils like lavender and sweet orange might make puffiness worse — but I do believe that this can be a powerful part of an anti-aging arsenal otherwise.
In short, I like the Michael Todd Sonic Eraser for dark circles, fine lines and wrinkles, and a hollowed-out undereye area. I’m not convinced this is a great product duo for undereye puffiness or anyone with sunspots near the undereye region.
