I know that it’s a little silly, but sometimes I like to make my skincare ingredients match the seasons and holidays – more floral extracts in the spring and summer, herbs and spices during the fall, and warm, earthy scents for the winter. In honor of St. Patrick’s Day, I was delighted to try the Miracle Moor Facial Kit, which contains 9,000 year old Irish peat that is believed to demonstrate notable antioxidant activity and rejuvenate the skin. Containing an Organic Moor Mud, Rose-Hip Organic Facial Oil, and Bilberry and Lady’s Mantle Facial Toner, the Miracle Moor Facial Kit is designed to deliver a bevy of benefits to the skin.

Peat: A Fascinating Ingredient Deserving of More Research

The peat used in the Miracle Moor Facial Kit is sourced from Ireland and carbon-dated to be over 9,000 years old – suffice to say that there is a limited quantity of this peat available, and its effects on the skin have not been studied as extensively as those of more popular natural ingredients like coconut oil or green tea.

Nevertheless, the peat used in the Miracle Moor Facial Kit is truly fascinating. A medical-grade peat, it was formed over 9,000 years by a collection of decomposing herbs, flowers, and grasses. It contains traces of over one hundred organic compounds and several minerals, vitamins, phyto-hormones, sterols, amino acids, humic acid, and salicylic acid.

Said to have the highest organic content in the world, Miracle Moor’s peat has levels of antioxidants that are 300 times higher than the antioxidant levels seen in Trolox, a vitamin E analogue that is commonly used to measure antioxidant capacity. The peat in the Miracle Moor Facial Kit is best suited for face and body masks, and has been used in numerous spas to deliver luxurious rejuvenation to the skin. Its benefit include: promoting collagen production; encouraging cellular turnover; alleviating signs of environmental damage; reducing pore size; improving the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles; stimulating blood flow within the skin; and reducing infections and inflammation seen in conditions such as eczema and acne.

In other words, this isn’t your run of the mill peat! In fact, I would go so far as to argue that the peat in the Miracle Moor Facial Kit is amongst the most diverse and hardest working ingredients that I have ever encountered in a skincare product.

The Miracle Moor Facial Kit – What’s Included?

The Miracle Moor Organic Moor Mud – Formulated from Irish peat, the Miracle Moor Organic Moor Mud is the Facial Kit’s standout product. The peat’s hundreds of herb, flower, and grass extracts deliver near-limitless benefits to the skin, most notable of which is its ability to smooth fine lines and wrinkles, and make the skin appear more youthful.

The Miracle Moor Bilberry and Lady’s Mantle Facial Toner – The Lady’s Mantle found in the Miracle Moor Facial toner has long been used in folk and alternative medicine as a topical wound healer, and has a number of uses for internal medicine (Traditional Herbal Medicine). When used externally, Lady’s Mantle is also believed to treat skin conditions such as eczema and rashes, as well as serving as an astringent agent. When used in internal medicine, Lady’s Mantle has been suggested to exhibit noteworthy antioxidant activity, although it is not clear if these benefits translate to topical application as well (Journal of Faculty of Pharmacy, Ankara).

Bilberry extract, on the other hand, is full of anthocyanins that lend it a high antioxidant capability. When applied topically, bilberry is also a popular natural remedy for inflammation of the mucous membranes (Herbal Medicine: Biomolecular and Clinical Aspects, 2nd Edition, Solve It With Supplements: The Best Herbal and Nutritional Supplements to Help Prevent and Heal More than 100 Common Health Problems).

Rose-Hip Organic Facial Oil – Rose-hip oil is renowned for its abilities to heal scaring. For example, topical application of a rose-hip-containing treatment greatly improved the appearance of surgical scars when applied for twelve weeks. Specifically, according to research published in the Journal of Cosmetics, Dermatological Sciences and Applications topically-applied rose-hip oil improved the edema, atrophy, and erythema of post-surgical scars. Long-term application of rose-hip has also been linked to an improvement in wrinkles and hyperpigmentation, although this property still needs to be confirmed in more clinical studies (Rose Hip Oil – Rosa Affinis Rubiginosa).

How to Use

Apply the Magic Moor Mud to freshly cleansed skin. Brush a small amount of mud onto the body and brush upward. Leave on for 20 – 30 minutes, and then wash away using warm water. Follow up with the Facial Toner and Organic Facial Oil.

Personal Use and Opinion

I really enjoyed using the Magic Moor Facial Kit. The Moor Mud has a pleasant earthy smell – it reminded me of the smell of rain during the spring. The mud glides smoothly onto the skin, and the applicator brush has luxuriantly soft bristles. I left it on for twenty minutes in the evening, and it definitely left my pores feeling thoroughly cleansed.

The Facial Toner similarly had a nice floral scent, and it cleansed my skin without leaving it feeling dry or taut, unlike some alcohol-based toners. The Rose-hip Facial Oil did hydrate my face, although I believe that those with oily skin may find this facial oil too heavy and slick. Overall, I was very satisfied with how vibrant and clear the Magic Moor Facial Kit left my skin.

Bottom Line

For those who are looking for a natural facial rejuvenation kit or those who are simply looking for something innovative and unusual to spice up their skincare routine, the Miracle Moor Facial Kit is definitely it. With two jars of the anti-aging Organic Moor Mud, Rose-Hip Organic Facial Oil, and Bilberry and Lady’s Mantle Facial Toner, this kit works in order to rejuvenate the skin in almost every way possible, from treating fine lines and wrinkles, shrinking the pores, and soothing irritation and inflammation due to conditions like eczema and acne. While I would like to see more published clinical evidence regarding Miracle Moor’s star product (peat), I have to say that this product’s effects were so impressive that I would gladly use it again, and recommend it to my readers, family, and friends. In fact, after using the Miracle Moor Facial Kit, I am planning to soon use the Miracle Moor Face and Body Mask with Guinness, the Miracle Poor Moor Mud and Royal Jelly Face and Body Mask, and the Miracle Moor 15 Years Old Irish Whiskey Tullamore Dew Face and Body Mask.
