Need a Fast Gift? Check Out LUSH’s Pre-Wrapped Presents!

Share Article

With the holidays fast approaching and little time left for gifts, LUSH has a solution for you: Pre-wrapped present sets full of some of LUSH’s best seasonal products between $11.95 and $22.95. LUSH sent us its Had a Very Shiny Nose gift set ($29.95) — including Olive Branch Shower Gel, Sandy Santa Scrub, and Mr. Punch Soap.

We found that LUSH’s pre-wrapped gifts are a great way to get something a beauty lover will adore that won’t take too much of your time.

The Olive Branch Shower Gel

the-olive-branch-separateThe Olive Branch Shower Gel is a vibrant orange color with a cool separation of ingredients that you shake together.

With the oil cleansing method so popular, it’s no wonder LUSH included this natural ingredient in this product. Olive oil has been used in soaps for millennium — as far back as 1000-2000 BC in Athens (American-Eurasian Journal of Agriculture and Environmental Science).

It works on the chemistry principle that “like dissolves like,” meaning that the olive oil should, in theory, work by dissolving the sebum on your skin. And you may reap some other benefits from the topical application. With plenty of fatty oleic acid and phenols, it’s a good antioxidant (Lancet Oncology). There is a slight concern of contact dermatitis with olive oil, so be sure to patch test before using this product (Contact Dermatitis).

But not all the ingredients are perfect. Ingredients with a high pH — namely citrus — can lead to skin irritation, sun sensitivity, and hyperpigmentation (International Journal of Dermatology). But they’re also moisturizing and give you a dose of vitamin C. So be careful if you have sensitive skin and be sure to wear sunscreen when you use this product!

Sandy Santa Scrub

More sweet orange oil means that this scrub may also be a bit sun sensitizing, but, as aforementioned, it can also give you a vitamin C boost and be moisturizing. So remember to wear sunscreen after using this scrub (but you’ve been doing that anyway, right?)

The sugar and sand help to slough away your dead skin cells. But be sure to buff gently! Scrubbing too harsh could take off too much skin and cause rawness and irritation.

And don’t worry about the sodium laureth sulfate, it’s gentler than the similarly named surfactant sodium lauryl sulfate and it has a lower incidence of irritation (EPA).

Mr. Punch Soap

soap-bar-separateA veritable punch bowl, this soap has what looks like chunks of fruit and a cranberry red tint — just like your favorite holiday beverage.

Rapeseed oil, also known as canola oil, has been shown in studies to help protect the skin barrier when it was irritated by sodium lauryl sulfate (British Journal of Dermatology). It’s actually even been shown to help improve the barrier function of those suffering from atopic dermatitis (British Journal of Dermatology).

Juniper oil has been found to have antibacterial and antifungal effects, meaning it will give you a good clean (Phytotherapy Research). Better yet, it also shows promise in helping to treat acne (Pharmaceutical Development and Technology).

Bottom Line

It’s hard to get all the gifts you need to get. So when you’re playing Santa this year, there are short cuts like LUSH’s pre-packaged and pre-wrapped gifts that can make the holiday season much easier.

Overall, the products are effective with quality ingredients. Just remember to wear sunscreen with citrus products.
