I’m always on the lookout for new products to cover for my readers, so when Selexir of Switzerland recently offered to send me a sample of their new Selexir Peace Balm (€100.00, Selexir.com), designed for extremely dry and eczematous skin, I was intrigued. Add in the fact that the company is currently offering a free sample for everyone for a limited time, and I’m even more intrigued.
The company boasts that the product is free from parabens, silicones, and chemical preservatives, which is great for those consumers looking for that kind of thing!
Here’s my analysis:
Most moisturizers contain one of three types of hydrators:
- Occlusive agents (lock moisture into the skin);
- Emollients (soften skin);
- Humectants (absorb moisture from the skin and the environment).
Selexir Peace Balm contains all three, in very high concentrations. In fact, within the first five ingredients there is water (smart for a dry skin formulation), shea butter (occlusive agent), glycerin (humectant), aloe vera juice (humectant), and honey (humectant).
Rounding out the rest of the ingredients are 21 other concentrated hydrators and oils, including Blackcurrant Seed Oil, Black Cumin Seed Oil, Avocado Oil, Honeysuckle, and Theobroma Grandiforum Seed Butter.

Need I say: Selexir Peace Balm is NOT for anyone with oily skin!
In-house clinical studies of Selexir Peace Balm show that light to medium eczema is helped with twice-daily use of the product for 4 weeks.
The company’s data also shows that skin hydration is enhanced in 100% of volunteers, while skin roughness was decreased by 87%, skin redness lessened by 64%, and skin firmness and elasticity increased by 80% – all again with twice-daily use for 4 weeks.
Personal Use and Opinions
Selexir Peace Balm is quite thick and, again, best reserved for those with extremely dry or eczematous skin.
It does not absorb easily – it is a balm, not a cream – and will take a while to rub in. Once absorbed, it smells a bit herbal, like rosemary and thyme. It’s definitely a treatment – not suitable for a romantic date night or big evening out!
A few warnings: One, do not apply this product if you do not have very dry skin. And even if you do, do NOT use this product after any others. Its blend of occlusives and humectants will trap other ingredients into the skin, potentially clogging the pores. Instead, simply wash your face and apply Selexir Peace Balm immediately afterwards. You may follow with sunscreen during the day.
Two, be sure to check the ingredients list thoroughly to make sure that you are not allergic to any of the ingredients. While its blend of 21 natural oils will certainly leave your skin more hydrated and smoother, it will leave the reverse of the desired effect if you are allergic.
If you suffer from dry, mildly eczematous, or sunburned skin and are looking for an all-natural product, Selexir Peace Balm is perfect for you. I have the sneaking suspicion that this product is aimed at a very targeted customer – financially affluent, natural product-loving, but fighting eczema and/or very dry skin. The good news is, the data shows it will certainly help to alleviate these conditions if applied twice daily for at least 4 weeks. Just don’t forget to wear sunscreen over it, and do not dare try this if you don’t have dry skin!
