O’o Hawaii birds + roses Rose Quartz Hydrating + Firming Mask is what you get if you take the past 5 years in the skincare market and package it all into one product: Natural ingredients. (Mostly). Crystal infusions. Softly-colored, Millennial-friendly packaging. Lots of face oils. And a mask to boot. Aside from the $130 price tag, this is a very trendy product that could have basically been crowdsourced online in its creation.
O’o Hawaii birds + roses Rose Quartz Hydrating + Firming Mask has a lot going for it. After using it once, the good news is that I felt like it made my skin feel firmer afterwards. And I was surprised at that, given the amount of firming agents like vitamin C and E, peptides, and retinoids or AHAs I apply to my skin on a regular basis. And I think what made the skin feel firmer was a combination of the product’s bentonite clay (in very high concentration) and the seaweed (in lesser concentration): Bentonite itself is often used for its water absorbing qualities (Academic Press Dictionary of Science and Technology), whereas seaweed has a molecular structure similar to collagen. Some profess that topical application of collagen may in turn grant some skin- and water-binding properties that might mimic collagen and help your skin to look firm.
On the other hand, what I didn’t like about O’o Hawaii birds + roses Rose Quartz Hydrating + Firming Mask was that I felt it was too drying for my normal-to-dry skin, despite the fact that this mask has about 50 million oils and hydrators in it. The concentration of bentonite clay, though, was simply too high for my skin. And that made me feel bad — I really, really wanted to like this product.
My honest recommendation is this: O’o Hawaii birds + roses Rose Quartz Hydrating + Firming Mask is a superior firming mask for anyone with normal to oily skin. But if you have normal to dry skin, I would steer clear, especially in the winter months. As for me, I’ll be using my jar on my nose, where I tend to get enlarged pores, once per week, but I’ll be keeping it off the rest of my face, which needs as much moisturization as it can get in the winter months!
