PCA SKIN Hydrating Serum ($74.00 value)

PCA SKIN Hydrating Serum

PCA SKIN Hydrating Serum is designed to nourish and replenish dull, lackluster skin. Some of the key ingredients include: Glycerin, Sodium Hyaluronate, and Sodium PCA.

PCA SKIN C&E Strength ($90.00 value)

PCA SKIN C & E Strength

PCA SKIN C&E Strength is designed to increase skin firmness, radiance, and provide protection against environmental damage. The secret is a proven combination of 15% stabilized vitamin C and a whopping 5% vitamin E that work synergistically to neutralize free radicals, promote collagen and elastin production, and diminish hyperpigmentation (Cosmetic Dermatology). Using this product with broad spectrum sunscreen ensures optimal daily skin protection.

How-Antioxidants-Work

According to the International Journal of Pharmaceutics, vitamin C has many favorable aspects for the skin, including:

    • scavenging of free radicals (reacts with the superoxide anion or the hydroxyl radical);
    • suppressing pigmentation of the skin (by inhibiting the enzyme tyrosinase);
    • decomposing melanin;
    • triggering collagen production and thereby increasing skin firmness;
    • enhancing sunscreen protection (see below).
    • Vitamin E protects from environmental assaults as a naturally-found antioxidant in the skin. In fact, vitamin E is one of the most potent antioxidants out there. Vitamin E has an environmental protection factor (EPF) of 80, which is relatively high compared to other commonly used antioxidants in skin care formulations. EPF was established for measuring the overall oxidative stress protection capacity of commonly used antioxidants in a 2006 study by McDaniel et. al. In this study, the researchers found that (on a scale from 1 to 100) vitamin E (tocopherol) had an EPF of 80; kinetin, 68; ubiquinone, 55; vitamin C (ascorbic acid) 52; and lipoic acid, 41.

Overall, PCA SKIN C&E Strength will treat all skin types for fine lines, wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, and sagging skin. As a bonus, the formulation may also help prevent further signs of aging in the future!

Ingredients: Cyclopentasiloxane, Ascorbic Acid, Polymethylsilsesquioxane, Ethylhexyl Hydroxystearate, Polysilicone-11, Tocopherol, Hordeum Distichon (Barley) Extract, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Oil, Phellodendron Amurense Bark Extract, Santalum Album (Sandalwood) Wood Extract, Bisabolol, Retinyl Palmitate.

PCA SKIN Active Broad Spectrum SPF 45: Water Resistant ($31.00 value)

PCA SKIN Active Broad Spectrum SPF 45

PCA SKIN Active Broad Spectrum SPF 45: Water Resistant is a UVA/UVB broad spectrum sunscreen designed to help prevent sunburn, skin cancer and premature aging. Anti-aging botanicals like antioxidant-rich milk thistle extract are used to further neutralize free radicals, promoting healthy, youthful-looking skin. Active Broad Spectrum SPF 45: Water Resistant has been awarded the Skin Cancer Foundation Seal of Recommendation.

UVA-UVB

Unlike many sunscreen formulations, PCA SKIN Active Broad Spectrum SPF 45: Water Resistant is designed to act for 80 minutes on the skin! Key ingredients include:

  • Zinc oxide is my favorite form of sunscreen. It is a little-known fact that zinc oxide is better than titanium oxide and other oxides.  This is because UVA and UVB rays are separated into longer UVA (UV-aging) and shorter UVB (UV-burning), and zinc oxide blocks a significantly longer portion of UVA rays. (Skin Pharmacology and Physiology, 2005)
  • Octisalate is a photostabilizer used to reduce the degradation of other sunscreens. Octisalate is considered to be a UVB filter; when paired with ingredients like zinc oxide, they create a broad-spectrum protectant against harmful radiation (JAAD).
  • Silymarin is a potent antioxidant from milk thistle, which may aid collagen production and visibly refine skin smoothness and expression lines.

Overall, if you’re looking for a sunscreen as active as you are, I highly recommend PCA SKIN Active!

Active: Zinc Oxide 8.0%, Octinoxate 7.5%, Octisalate 3.0%.Inactive: Ascorbyl Palmitate, Butylene Glycol, Caffeine, Cyclopentasiloxane, Dimethicone/PEG-10/15 Crosspolymer, Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Ethylhexyl Isononanoate, Iodopropynyl Butylcarbanate, Lauryl PEG-9 Polydimethylsiloxyethyl Dimethicone, Phenoxyethanol, Silybum Marianum Extract, Sodium Chloride, Triethoxycaprylylsilane, Water/Aqua/Eau.

PCA SKIN Nutrient Toner ($35.00 value)

PCA SKIN Nutrient Toner

PCA SKIN Nutrient Toner is a toner designed to nourish, rather than merely clean, the skin. PCA SKIN Nutrient Toner contains an array of vitamins, enzymes and amino acids. It also contains alpha hydroxy acids to help cleanse pores deeply and aid with fine lines and wrinkles and other skin imperfections. A closer look at its ingredients:

Lactobacillus Lactic Acid Skincare fermentation

  • Lactobacillus is one of the species of microorganisms used to produce fermented products such as sauerkraut and kimchi, a Korean dietary staple, from cabbage. Like many members of the lactic acid bacteria family, Lactobacillus is capable of restricting the growth of other microorganisms by acidifying its environment. However, in addition to acidifying its environment, Lactobacillus also produces novel antimicrobial peptides, also known as bacteriocins, that are capable of providing broad spectrum antimicrobial protection. (ActiveMicrotechnology.com)
  • There are a lot of beauty benefits to using Lactobacillus, including its lactic acid. Lactic acid is a terrific AHA that hydrates the skin and helps with skin wrinkling. The advantage to lactic acid is that it does not temporarily thin the skin like glycolic acid does, according to the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology. This is particularly useful during the summer months, when UV rays are the strongest.
  • Glutathione is a naturally-abundant antioxidant found in the uppermost layer of the skin. Glutathione has been found to be significantly more prevalent in the epidermis (outermost layer of skin) than the dermis. Glutathione protects cells from free radicals, neutralizing them to form a compound.
  • It has also been well-established that glutathione levels decrease with exposure to UV light, according to The Journal of Investigative Dermatology (amongst other sources). With continued exposure to UV light, the lower levels of glutathione increase the skin’s susceptibility to UV-induced damage, as findings reported in Photochemistry and Photobiology suggest. By supplementing the skin with glutathione, you can help to maintain these stores of antioxidant protection.

I highly recommend PCA SKIN Nutrient Toner!
