K-Beauty

K-Beauty is one of the fastest growing categories in premium skincare at Target, allowing consumers to incorporate Korean skincare products into their routines for low prices. Below I’m covering the latest products from the new Target K-Beauty Collection, many of which contain exciting ingredients and innovative technologies developed to target specific areas or receptors within the skin.

Mizon All in One Snail Repair Cream

Snail mucin skin care has been popular for years in South Korea, with nearly every major Korean skincare brand offering at least one snail mucin product. Thus, I’m not surprised that the

Mizon All-In-One Snail Repair Cream made its way into the new Target K-Beauty Collection.

Snail mucin is a combination of glycolic acid, proteins, enzymes, and sugars. The benefits evidenced from snail mucin are generally just from additional glycolic acid and hydrators like hyaluronic acid. However, if you want to try snail mucin, the best chances of achieving benefit are with Mizon All-In-One Snail Repair Cream, which contains 92% snail excretion. It’s really more of a concentrated serum, and I do recommend this for acne scars.

Ingredients in Mizon All-In-One Snail Repair Cream: Snail secretion filtrate, water, butylene glycol, sodium polyacrylate, cetearyl alcohol, PEG/PPG-17/6 copolymer, cetearyl olivate, sorbitan olivate, portulaca oleracea extract, betula platyphylla japonica juice, sodium hyaluronate, glyceryl stearate, caprylyl glyocol, ethylhexylglycerin, tropolone, triethanolamine, carbomer, centella asiatica extract, rh-olidopeptide-1, palmitoyl pentapeptide-4, hydrogenated vegetable oil, stearic acid, dimethicone, arnica montana flower extract, artemisia absinthium extract, achillea millefolium extract, gentiana lutea root extract, ethanol, camellia sinensis leaf extract, copper tripeptide-1, propylene glycol, rubus idaeus (raspberry) fruit extract, beta-glucan, adenosine, polyacrylate-13, polyisobutene, polysorbate 20, disodium edta

MISSHA Super Aqua Anti-Trouble Spot Ointment

The MISSHA Super Aqua Anti-Trouble Spot Ointment claims to “zap out impurities and blemishes”, however, I’m not convinced. Now don’t get me wrong, there are several excellent in this product that will moisturize the skin and calm inflammation. For instance, Safflower Seed Oil and Macadamia Integrifolia Seed Oil, two fatty acids found in the MISSHA Super Aqua Anti-Trouble Spot Ointment, help to calm dry, inflamed skin. But when it comes to getting rid of a zit, I think there are better ingredients that can be used as spot treatments, such as salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide.

Besides the lack of acne-fighting ingredients in the MISSHA Super Aqua Anti-Trouble Spot Ointment, this product does contain an ingredient that caught my eye: Asiaticoside. Also known as Centella Asiatica, Asiaticoside has traditionally been used to support faster healing of small wounds, scratches and superficial burns, as well as an anti-inflammatory for eczema, minor itching, and insect bites. Additionally, a 2006 study published in Planta Medica discovered that Asiaticoside induces human collagen I synthesis through TGFbeta receptor I kinase (TbetaRI kinase)-independent Smad signaling. Although more research will need to be done, it’s fascinating to learn about another ingredient that promotes collagen synthesis.

Ingredients in MISSHA Super Aqua Anti-Trouble Spot Ointment: Water, Butylene Glycol, Behenyl Alcohol, Copernicia Cerifera (Carnauba) Wax, Macadamia Integrifolia Seed Oil, Cetearyl Alcohol, Safflower Seed Oil, Polysorbate 60, Glyceryl Stearate, Cellulose, Pentylene Glycol, Dimethicone, Sorbitan Sesquioleate, Asiaticoside, Madecassic Acid, Asiatic Acid, Potassium Hydroxide, Carbomer, Disodium EDTA, Phenoxyethanol

Freeset Donkey Milk 3D Moisture Cream

Donkey milk is far from a typical ingredient you’d find in a Western moisturizing cream, but Korean skincare products frequently incorporate this ingredient due to its plethora of skin benefits. The rich composition of proteins, phospholipids, and ceramides in donkey milk means that the Freeset Donkey Milk 3D Moisture Cream is soothing, regenerative, and moisturizing. Furthermore, donkey milk has 60 times the vitamin C content as cow’s milk, and as you most likely know vitamin C is one of my favorite anti-aging ingredients due to its excellent antioxidant properties.

Ingredients in Freeset Donkey Milk 3D Moisture Cream: Water/Aqua, Butylene Glycol, Cetyl Ethylhexanoate, Cyclopentasiloxane, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Niacinamide, Dimethicone, Ceterayl Alcohol, Glyceryk Stearate, Donkey milk, Glycrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract, Sanguisorba Officinalis, Root Extract, Centella Asiatica Extract, Vaccinium Angustifolium (Blueberry) Fruit Extract, Phellinus Linteus Extract, Inonotus Obliquus (Mushroom) Extract, Acanthopanax Secticsus (Eleuthero) Root Extract, Beta-Glucan, Hydrolyzed Collagen, Pyrus Pyrifoila (Pear) Fruit Extract, Limnanthes Alba (Meadowfoam) Seed Oil, Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil, Dipentaerythrityl Hexa C5-9 Acid Esters, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter), Aureobasidium Pullulans Ferment, Natto Gum, Triethylhexanoin, Panthenol, Hydrogenated Polydecene, 1, 2-Hexanediol, Dimethicone, Hydrogenated Lecithin, Ceramide NP, Potassium Carbomer, Cholestrol, Potassium C11-15 Alkyl Phosphate, Ceramide NS, Phytosphingosine, Sodium Hyalluronate, Panthenol, Adenosine, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Allantoin, Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, PEG-100 Stearate, Glycerl Stearate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Portulaca Oleracea Extract, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Squalane, Sodium Polyacrylate, Ethyl Hexanediol, 1, 2-Hexanediol, Caprylyl Glycol, Fragrance/Parfum, Polyacrylate-13, Polyisobutene, Polysorbate 20, Chlorphenesin, Disodium EDTA, Honey, Honey

Lagom Cellup Gel to Water Cleanser

Lagom Cellup Gel to Water Cleanser is one of my favorite products from the new Target K-Beauty Collection because it takes science and applies it to skincare. I’m referring to Lagom’s DermaFlux technology, which was developed based on the discovery of aquaporins in 2003, a discovery that won the Nobel Prize in chemistry! DermaFlux directs moisture to areas in the skin where it’s needed the most via upregulation of aquaporins, key water channeling proteins found within cell membranes. The activation of aquaporins draws moisture into cells, which results in healthy, moisturized skin. Overall, Lagom Cellup Gel to Water Cleanser is a truly innovative product that effectively removes makeup and other impurities from the skin while simultaneously hydrating the skin. This product is ideal for sensitive skin that is deprived of moisture.

Ingredients in Lagom Cellup Gel to Water Cleanser: Water, Dipropylene Glycol, PEG-6 Caprylic/Capric Glycerides, 1,2-Hexanediol, Yeast Amino Acids, Carbomer, Tromethamine, PEG-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Sodium Hyaluronate, Portulaca Oleracea Extract, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Oil, Urea, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil, Inositol, Betaine, Trehalose, Taurine, Geranium Maculatum Oil, Citrus Aurantium Bergamia (Bergamot) Fruit Oil, Santalum Album (Sandalwood) Oil, Rose Flower Oil, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Oil, Saponaria Officnalis Leaf Extract, Sapindus Mukurossi Fruit Extract, Styrax Benzoin Gum, Commiphora Myrrha Oil, Butylene Glycol, Hydrogenated Lecithin, Glycerin, Disodium EDTA, Chlorphenesin

Caolion Premium Blackhead O2 Bubble Pore Pack

Caolion O2 Bubble Pore Pack is a purifying mask featuring oxygen and active charcoal that, together, froth up and work to cleanse pores of trapped dirt, blackheads, and whiteheads. Charcoal is frequently used in medical and dermatologic settings because it is highly absorptive. In medicine, activated charcoal is used as a poisoning antidote. After a person ingests a poisonous substance, activated charcoal will be administered to absorb the toxins. This prevents the absorption of most toxic agents from the gastrointestinal tract and enhances the elimination of some agents already absorbed. In dermatology, charcoal is also used due to its absorptive properties. After topical application, charcoal absorbs impurities (bacteria, dirt, oil, etc.), drawing them out of your pores. Combining active charcoal with exfoliating beads that buff away dead skin, the Caolion O2 Bubble Pore Pack will reveal a more luminous complexion, leaving skin brighter, smoother and moisturized.

Ingredients in Caolion O2 Bubble Pore Pack: Water, Cyclomethicone, Cetyl Ethylhexanoate, Ethyl Perfluorobutyl Ether, Ethyl Perfluoroisobutyl Ether, Butylene Glycol, Caprylic/capric Triglyceride, Cetearyl Alcohol, Glycerin, Glyceryl Stearate, Sodium Myristoyl Glutamate, Glyceryl Stearate Se, Polysorbate 60, Polyethylene, Dimethicone, Avena Sativa (oat) Kernel Flour, Charcoal Powder, Allantoin, Hydrogenated Lecithin, Panthenol, Peg/ppg-18/18dimethicone, Peg-100 Stearate, Cyclopentasiloxane, Palmitic Acid, Sorbitan Sesquioleate, C12-16 Alcohols, Phenoxyethanol, Chlorphenesin, Hyaluronic Acid, Ginkgo Biloba Leaf Extract, Glycyrrhiza Glabra (licorice) Root Extract, Portulaca Oleracea Extract, Prunus Mume Fruit Extract, Rhus Semialata Gall Extract, Sodium Polyacrylate, Trideceth-6, Disodium Edta.
