Vanity Planet Spin for Perfect Skin: A Very Affordable Clarisonic Alternative

When the Clarisonic debuted over a decade ago, millions of women were delighted to learn that sonic cleansing wasn’t just for the teeth. Sonic cleansing revolutionized the skin care industry as well.

Exfoliation has been shown in numerous studies to promote cellular turnover, improve the appearance of blemishes and acne, and give your skin an overall more radiant glow. Yet, while I know that I should exfoliate several times a week, sometimes I barely remember to use a scrub or exfoliating peel pads once per week. That’s why I was so glad to come across the Vanity Planet Spin for Perfect Skin. An exfoliating device that comes with four different exfoliative heads to both remove dead skin and reveal more radiant, beautiful skin, the Spin for Perfect Skin comes with multiple different exfoliators to refine the skin without the fuss. But does this device really live up to its claims or is it just another too-good-to-be-true invention? Read more for a discussion and Q&A!

Different Attachments That Can Meet Various Exfoliative Needs

Although there are a number of exfoliative products on the market, few have been able to consolidate the abilities of several exfoliative tools into one. Not only does the Spin for Perfect Skin come with a professional-caliber Cleansing Brush for the face and Body Brush for the body, but it also comes with an Exfoliating Brush and a Pumice Stone attachment that can whisk away dead skin cells.

The Exfoliating Brush is best for use on the face and body, whereas the Pumice Stone should be used exclusively on heavily-calloused areas like the heels, knees, and elbows.

With the Spin for Perfect Skin, I pair the Cleansing Brush with my favorite cleansers and the exfoliating heads with my favorite keratolytic ingredients, and I’m ready to offer myself a fairly efficient but professional-quality exfoliation within the space of a few minutes. Better yet, I can use the Spin for Perfect Skin in the shower and be done in less than a minute with cleansing and exfoliating my skin.

The Speed of 8000 RPM Thoroughly Cleanses the Skin

Perhaps what I love most about the Spin for Perfect Skin is that it practically does all of the work for you, requiring you to only glide the device across your skin in order to cleanse and exfoliate.

When using a manual exfoliative tool (buff, wash cloth, body brush, etc.), most people apply inconsistent pressure and attention to the skin, thus leading to uneven exfoliation and potential irritation for those who are particularly zealous when exfoliating. The Spin for Perfect Skin rotates at a steady rate of 8000 revolutions per minute (RPM), meaning that it can not only loosen dead skin cells and debris, but can also gently whisk these away from the skin.

Naturally Anti-Bacterial

Another aspect of the Spin for Perfect Skin that I love is that it does not make use of bacterial colonization-promoting plant-based substances, harsh plastics, or jagged surfaces. Many plant-based exfoliators have porous surfaces and teeny-tiny crevices that are perfect for bacterial growth and colonization, a trait further compounded by the fact that most loofahs are left in perpetually-damp showers (ClevelandClinicHealthEssentials). In fact, several studies have found that plant-based loofahs can be a breeding ground for potentially-pathogenic bacteria like P. aeruginosa, E.coli, and Xanthomonas (Journal of Clinical Microbiology).

Comparing the Vanity Planet Spin for Perfect Skin and the Clarisonic

  • Price. The Vanity Planet Spin for Perfect Skin is a value compared to the Clarisonic. While the Clarisonic retails for about $200 on average, depending on the model you choose, the Vanity Planet Spin for Perfect Skin is $30 after discount.
  • Value. The Vanity Planet Spin for Perfect Skin includes 4 detachable heads. The Clarisonic includes just one detachable head.
  • Texture. The Vanity Planet Spin for Perfect Skin Cleansing Brush and Body Brush bristles are softer than those of the Clarisonic. On the other hand, the Vanity Planet Spin for Perfect Skin Exfoliating Brush and Pumice Stone are more exfoliating than the Clarisonic, in my opinion.

How to Use

  • The Cleansing Brush and Body Brush: Make sure to remove any makeup, lotion, and other skin care products before applying the Cleansing Brush and Body Brush to the face and body, respectively.
  • Exfoliating Brush and Pumice Stone: Use with a mild exfoliating serum on freshly-cleansed skin.
  • You can use this brush in the shower, although you should not submerge it in water.
  • Make sure to dry it off after use.
  • Once you are done using the device, wash it with warm soap and water.

Personal Use and Opinions

spin7

Overall, I really enjoyed using the Vanity Planet Spin for Perfect Skin and found that it gave results similar to that of the Clarisonic brushes.

I began by using the Cleansing Brush in the evening on washed and makeup-free facial skin and the Body Brush on my arms, legs, and torso. I then followed up by using the Exfoliating Brush with my favorite exfoliating serum. Made of gentle yet hygienic bristles, both of these attachments made my skin feel slightly ticklish (in a pleasant way) yet thoroughly cleansed and refreshed.

Even better, this product was in no way abrasive or irritating, so I believe that even those with sensitive skin should be able to use this product without fear. While it didn’t quite match the exfoliative effects of a chemical peel or in-office dermabrasion, the Vanity Planet Spin for Perfect Skin definitely offered more robust exfoliation than my typical exfoliating buff and exfoliating serum combo. Since it offers a more comprehensive exfoliation, I only use the Vanity Planet Spin for Perfect Skin on my face and body about once a week.

The fourth attachment for the Spin for Perfect Skin is a Pumice Stone that is best used for calloused skin on the knees, elbows, and heels. While this attachment was excellent at buffing away the buildup of dead skin cells on my heels, I cannot recommend trying this on the face or body, as the pumice is too abrasive to use elsewhere on the body.

Things to Keep in Mind

While I loved using the Vanity Planet Spin for Perfect Skin, there are some things that users should keep in mind if you are interested in using this product:

  • It is suitable for use by both men and women. While men tend to have thicker, more resilient skin, they should start with the Cleansing Brush and test the Exfoliating Brush next.
  • Not every exfoliating serum is compatible with the Spin for Perfect Skin. If your serum contains a high concentration of keratolytic ingredients (salicylic acid, glycolic acid, urea, etc.), contains drying ingredients, or employs jagged exfoliative fragments, then it may not pair well with the Spin for Perfect Skin (Vanity Planet).
  • Each attachment should be cleansed in warm, soapy water after use.
  • The Spin for Perfect Skin can be used in the shower, although you should refrain from submerging it in water and should dry it off after each use.
  • The Spin for Perfect Skin requires 4 AA batteries, which are not included with your order.
  • Using the Spin for Perfect Skin with tinted lotions and serum may dye the bristles of your attachments.
  • Attachment heads should be changed every two to three months, and should never be shared with others.

Bottom Line

The Vanity Planet Spin for Perfect Skin is among the latest and most effective exfoliating devices to hit the skin care market. With two cleansing heads and two exfoliative heads and a rotating rate of 8,000 RPM, this device will leave your skin feeling thoroughly cleansed and radiant. The circling motion of the brush is gentle and makes the skin glow after use because the movement stimulates blood flow to the skin surface. It’s really great to use on the face because it’s so gentle and makes skin on the body soft and smooth also. It costs $100 (USD) from the Vanity Planet website, but there are discount codes so you can get it for much cheaper, around $30. In fact, see below for a special coupon code from FutureDerm.
