Yeah, I know, that name is ridiculous, right? But Babassuamidopropalkonium Chloride is a real thing beyond being a tongue twister. It comes from babassu oil, which comes from babassu palms, Attalea speciosa, found in Brazil. Each babassu seed contains 63-70 percent oil, and the oil is often used as a substitute for coconut oil (University of California, Riverside, USDA). That’s why the oil is used in soaps and other cosmetics. But the ingredient Babassuamidopropalkonium Chloride is used as an anti-static and conditioning in hair products (Unpetroleum).
