I once read a book by Tracy McMillan on tapping into your feminine. (OK, OK, it wasn’t about how to be more feminine, but it was actually about how to get married when I was getting older and thought it might not happen, but can we let that one go?!)
One of the things that she said, in so many words, was that so many of us nowadays tap into our masculine side all day long. Think about it: We work. We strive. We hustle. We earn like men and we deal like men and there’s no discernible difference between how we function in the professional world and how men traditionally did years ago.
And not that there’s a problem with that, but there’s also something to be said about tapping into your feminine energy once in a while. (Please keep in mind, btw, by “masculine” and “feminine” here, I mean no offense to anybody. I’m talking traditional roles, for lack of a better descriptor. Bear with me).
For Valentine’s Day, it’s hard to go from my usual “go big or go home” attitude to feeling soft, sweet, and sensual, but I think it’s important to slow down, nurture myself, and look and feel my best. For me, that means leaving work at 4, coming home to a long bath, selecting a favorite dress and accessories to wear, and taking the time to properly do my skincare, fix my hair and makeup, and feel beautiful.
I decided to do this photo feature mainly to emphasize how important it is to take time for yourself. Love starts with truly loving yourself and carving out time for yourself. I loved getting ready for this post, and if anyone is interested in a full typical FutureDerm-style article on BeautyCounter products, please click here. Otherwise, enjoy the photos and remember to take care of yourself! Love starts with you.
