Why Amino Acids are the Next Retinoids

Share Article

I’ve been using AminoGenesis products for the past nine months, and their products have changed my skin for the better.

What is An Amino Acid?

FutureDerm Amino Acid-17

Amino acids aren’t necessarily acids. Instead, they are compounds that can be acidic (aspartate, glutamate, asparagine, glutamine) and basic (histidine, lysine, arginine). Scientifically speaking, amino acids are organic compounds that  have three different components:

  • An amine, or -NH2 group on one end
  • A carboxylic acid, or -COOH, group on the opposite end
  • A side chain that makes each amino acid different

It is the side chain that is the most important, and which will determine the specific properties of the amino acid (including the pH). The key elements of the side chain include organic elements like carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, and nitrogen. There are over 500 different amino acids (Angewandt Chemie), all varying by the side chain.

What Do Amino Acids Do for the Skin?

Topically-applied amino acids have been found to do all of the following and more:

It takes the skin about 3-6 weeks to turnover completely, with longer times when you are older. Most persons benefit from using a new topical ingredient for at least 3-6 weeks to ensure that their skin cells renew and regenerate, so they can experience the full effect of using new ingredients.

AminoGenesis Paranormal EFX Anti-Aging Super Serum for the Face

AminoGenesis Paranormal EFX Anti-Aging Super Serum

I recommend AminoGenesis Paranormal EFX Anti-Aging Super Serum is a sensational product to try amino acids, because it contains 17 amino acids plus skin-firming 3-guanidinopropionic acid (3-GPA), Preventhelia, a soothing peptide with protective abilities, and mushroom extract, for extra antioxidant protection. This revolutionary serum is designed to treat eight different signs of aging, including sunspots and discoloration, fine lines and wrinkles, loss of firmness, enlarged pores, dryness, uneven skin tone, loss of radiance and luster, and loss of smoothness/texture.

In AminoGenesis’ in-house research, the following was evident in users after just six weeks’ of daily use:

  • 98% of users said their skin was more firm;
  • 95% of users noted there was a decrease in fine lines;
  • 95% of users proclaimed there was an improvement in skin discolorations;
  • 70% of users noticed a difference with wrinkles.

AminoGenesis Cocoon for the Body

AminoGenesis Cocoon Body Lotion

I recommend AminoGenesis Cocoon for the body. Unlike most body treatments, this contains no dilution of the active ingredients. Instead, this state-of-the-art body lotion contains 17 undiluted amino acids to make your skin softer, smoother, and silkier, and Preventhelia™, a patented peptide that protects your skin from both oxidative and carbon free radical damage and pre-mature protein breakdown.

I’m a huge fan of this body lotion! Check out my full AminoGenesis Cocoon review on FutureDerm.

Bottom Line

Amino acids have been proven to do everything that retinoids do — reduce fine lines and wrinkles, alleviate sunspots, and keep the skin looking firm. But they also have far less irritation potential, and can be used with retinoids for a one-two punch. (There is a new AminoGenesis product with amino acids and retinyl palmitate also, AminoGenesis Perfect Reflection Anti-Aging Serum).

Regardless, if you’re already using retinoids or AHAs, peptides, antioxidants, and sunscreen, you need to add in amino acids!
