I haven’t always had perfect skin and nights of staying up late and old acne scars are proof of that. B. Kamins’ Nia-Stem Serum Kx ($135, amazon.com), Eye Cream ($90, amazon.com), and Moisturizer ($125, amazon.com) was finally able to give me a solution to my skin problems by giving my skin a healthy glow, lightening acne scars, and moisturizing my dried winter skin.

Niacin: Wonder Vitamin

Niacin helps reduce dark spots and smooth skin.
Niacin helps reduce dark spots and smooth skin.

Niacin is more than just a B Vitamin: it promotes cell growth and healing, reduces sun spots and depigmentation, exfoliates skin, can reverse signs of aging and wrinkles, and has been shown to reduce symptoms of rosacea and blotchy skin (Wiley Online Library – Bissett, Oblong, and Berge, Kopelson Clinic). Niacin, also called Vitamin B3 or niacinamide, works so well to repair skin because its composition allows for DNA to repair itself while simultaneously promoting cell reproduction.

Increased cell production has two major benefits: it reduces the time needed to heal scars and bruises, and hence less time that melanin (dark skin pigments) has to spread throughout your skin; and two, it can decrease your signs of aging by consistently and regularly growing new cells.

Plus, it has been shown to act as an exfoliant, which gently disposes of dead skins cells, such as acne and some rashes, that mottle and blemish the skin. Finally, Niacin creates a protective, moisturizing barrier by increasing levels of lipid production on the face (Kopelson Clinic).

AHA-containing Bio-Maple Compound

B. Kamins’ specially designed their Bio-Maple Compound, rich in alpha hydroxy acids and which is supposed to absorb moisture from the environment, exfoliate cells and defend the skin against bacterias, acne, rashes, and other skin blotches, according to the B. Kamins’ website. Alpha hydroxyl acids’ (AHA’s) internal composition makes them ideal for reducing fine wrinkles, regulating and smoothing the skin texture, exfoliating pores, and maintaining a balanced pH level (FDA – Alpha Hydroxy Acids in Cosmetics). AHA’s work by thinning your straum corneum — the outermost layer of skin that is composed mostly of dead cell — and promoting collagen production. Additionally, AHA reduces concentrations of melanin, ensuring that blemishes will be cleared/faded and skin lightening, in some cases (PubMed.gov).

High doses AHA has been known to cause rashes, swelling, irritation, peeling and rashes in users with both high and medium-sensitivity skin types so be sure to use products that have 10% AHA or less, or a pH over 3 ( FDA –  Alpha Hydroxy Acids in Cosmetics). However, AHA levels in most beauty products are currently low enough to not cause skin irritation but maintain their healing effects.

Oligopeptide -4: Can It Bring Feeling Back to Skin?

Some research results show that Ogliopeptide-4 might work well to restore feeling in skin.
Some research results show that Ogliopeptide-4 might work well to restore feeling in skin.

Recent studies have shown oligopeptides to be good for treatment skin discoloring and sagging/wrinkling by altering natural production of melanin, collagen, and elastin (the latter two are responsible for skin firmness) (PubMed.gov – Reddy, Hantash, Jow). A 2011 project led by Varvaresou, Papageorgiu, Protopapa, and Katsaru  found that use of oligopeptides did not reduce skin discoloration, but test subjects did have smoother skin with a healthy glow, fewer or reduced wrinkles, and had no adverse reactions to the topical oligopeptide treatment.

Additionally, those who have reduced skin sensitivity, due to lacerations, scarring, disease, etc. may have the sensors in their skin renewed by using oligopeptides. This renewed ability to register sensations has been linked to enhanced general well-being and recovery in individuals who have had sensory loss (Lersh and Farwick – Oligopeptide Patent).

Personal Use and Experience

This helped the sun damage on my mother’s skin and also the acne scarring on my own face.

These were a great success. Though the serum works marvelously the bottles are a bit small, so you may find yourself ordering two or three per month if you intend to apply once daily. The lotion is very light, having dried within a minute of its application, and also has a pleasantly light, clean fragrance – the smell reminded me of tulips.

In order to get a second opinion, I enlisted the help of my mother to test out the B. Kamin Serum Kx line, designed to lighten dispigmentation and offer a healthy aura to the skin. After three days of use, my mother noticed lightened sun damage on her face and even her arms, and the bags underneath my eyes had faded considerably.

The second cream, the Moisturizer Kx was intended to reduce wrinkles and fine lines, reduce discoloring and moisturize skin – again our skin remained very moisturized, and my mother noticed that her crows’ feet were noticeably smaller after the three day period.

The third product, the Eye Cream Kx, decreased not only the bags under my eyes but also the puffiness around my eyelids and cheeks. Although the creams do not need to be used simultaneously, they should be in order t oreach the desired effect.

Bottom Line

If you are looking for a cream to reduce pimples, scarring, sun spots, lighten the skin or even just moisturize it, B. Kamins’ Serum, Eye Cream, and Moisturizer Kx trio is a really beauty routine product to look into. Within just a few days time it gave both my mother and I a healthy glow; reduced pigmentation in the bags under my eyes and her cheeks and arms; reduced the appearance of the crows’ feet around her eyes; and gave both of our faces a moisturized, supple texture.
